Vehicle description
This is a southern bus and has never seen road salt- look closely at the photos underneath. No cancer here! I bought it from Citrus county Florida and drove it all the way back to Ohio. I made it almost all the way home and about 30 miles before I got home, the transmission started shifting crazy. It got me home, but the next morning - it wouldn"t even engage in 1st gear. I drained the fluid and dropped the pan & took the fluid & pan residue to a local transmission shop and they could tell by the smell of the fluid that it needed to be rebuilt. I pulled the transmission out and took it to them to rebuild it & I re installed. It shift perfectly and has a 1 year warranty. They are a very reputable shop and hae been around since the 1970"s. He also installed an upgraded (if I remember correctly) 5/6 clutch pack. The torque converter is new as well. I also changed the engine oil and filter with Napa full synthetic.
The bus has just under 192,500 miles. The engine runs strong and does not burn oil. Transmission is new.
It has a "Merlin multiplex" unit that controls the entry door and wheel chair lift & lighting. It also has a system that will extinguish an engine fire. I don"t know too much about those systems, but I was able to open the entry door and also get the wheel chair lift to work.
Anyway - this was going to be the bus that I would turn into a cheap RV. It"s a really nice size for 2 people, but I decided that I also want to pull a trailer with a couple ATV"s behind it and I started thinking it would be too much for this bus. I ended up buying a Freightliner bus as you can see in one of the pics. It will suit my purposes better.
The only things this chevy bus need is that the air conditioning does work, but it will not freeze you out. The other thing is that if it sits for a week or more without being started - it will drain the batteries. I just disconnect the negative cable until i need to start it again. I have not even attempted to look into the problem because I am focusing my attention on my other bus. Also, the paint is peeling as you can see on the hood.
If you are like me & are considering doing your own RV conversion - when looking at shuttle buses, you will notice that most of them do NOT have a passenger seat. That is what makes this one a little nicer - because it has a normal passenger door (instead of large entry door) and a passenger seat. A negative (or positive depending how you see it) is that the rear portion of the bus is narrower than most shuttle buses and the wheel base is shorter. while it gives you a little less interior space, it can easily be pulled into a normal size parking spot & you don"t have to drive to the bus parking area. It"s pretty much the same footprint as a Dually pickup truck. Also the short wheel base makes it very maneuverable. It drives down the highway 65mph very nice. It also has cruise control and electric doors, which a lot of shuttle buses do not have.
anyway, it"s actually a pretty nice van for the price range. It"s mechanically sound and solid as a rock (ZERO RUST) - I don"t buy anything from the north east because of the corrosion problems. I personally wouldn"t be afraid to drive it cross country, but It still is a used bus and so you are buying it AS IS.
Fly into Cleveland Hopkins airport and I will pick you up. If you agree that It"s how I described it, then pay for it and give me a ride home. We will also need to stop by my bank in order to get the title notarized and put in your name. There is no way around this - Ohio is a notary state and they are very picky - notaries will not stamp it unless all the blocks on the title are filled out (no open titles).
