2011 SRA- Spec:Race Atom
This is a 2011 Ariel Atom , SRA to be exact, chassis #20 of the original batch of spec race cars produced for the Spec: Race Atom Series held at Virginia International Raceway for 5 years. It has the highly desired Honda K20 drivetrain with custom Hondata ECU and puts out over 240 hp at the wheels on premium 93 octane gasoline! All this in a car that is under 1400 pounds (640 kg) dry. Fully loaded, with racing suit and a cool suit it weighs in just over 700kgs (1540 lbs)! This is truly fast and there is not anything outside of a 6-figure car that has near the horsepower-weight ratio and handling that this does.
As noted this is the K20 engine, with a redline of 8500 rpm and a custom Hondata ECU. (Not the later K24, 2.4l Honda engine.) If you can shift quickly enough it revs freely and fast to redline once the VTEC kicks in and it pulls hard. The intake is stock Honda but with a conical air filter. The exhaust is a custom 4-2-1 manifold with a barrel, which can accept packing to meet any noise restrictions at tracks that you may encounter. It makes for a great track car and with modifications can run in SCCA (I"ve been told). (One guy I know has converted it for street use but for that you are totally on your own!)
I have won and gained several podium finishes in this vehicle. It has been sorted out and tuned with alignment settings favoring an aggressive driving style and lowered to the 100 mm ride height that was allowed by the race series.
