I have a Mk4 2001 Jetta that I raced in 2019 in NASA ST5. Over 2020 I did some upgrades with intent to race in ST4, but some other priorities have come around. I"d like to sell it and possibly my trailer with it. I"m in Mesa, AZ. I"ve recently moved and don"t have a lot of space for this car and could use the extra cash for home improvements.I started to build this car in 2014 when I relocated out of CA and it sat in a friend"s garage for 3.5 year until I brought back with me to AZ and finished it.
I did a few events in 2018 before doing a full road race season in 2019 with NASA in ST5 class (approx 8 events) and as a result was the NASA AZ ST5 champion. The car weighs 2642 lbs with 3/4 tank of fuel. During 2020 downtime, I opened up the front bumper cover, added an oil cooler and the new hood. It last raced in December 2019. NASA log book is included with sale. I"ve taken it to two track events this year to shakedown a new turbo and the new cooling. The cooling is great, maintaining 230 degree oil temperature in 92 degree ambient temps.
The car had approximately 118,000 miles on it when it was converted to a race car. The cage was professionally done by TC Design in Campbell, CA and is top of the line, just that work alone cost $4,000.
At the beginning of the year, I replaced all brake rotors, pads and 3 of the 4 calipers, and ball joints. The turbo is a new unit from Turbo Concepts in Michigan that is larger than a K04 but not quite a GT28. The ECU is an aftermarket Link unit and as such any reputable tuner with a dyno can tune this car easily. Tuning has been done by UMS Tuning in Mesa, AZ. Car is tuned to be in the ST4 at 270whp.
Two sets of wheels are included with the sale, one has a bend in it. The tires on the set currently on it are Nitto NT-01s. The other set has spent Maxxis RC1s on them. The harness is good through 2021, the seat is expired but meets safety requirements because of the addition of the back brace. The fire suppression bottle was recently serviced and is good for another 20+ months.
The car never had a mechanical failure, but it did have a good amount of heat soak after 15 minutes which is what lead me to do all the cooling upgrades at the beginning of this year. It hasn"t been in any major incidents. The paint is okay, it"s showing its age. The body is in good shape. The transmission case was repaired when I got it, I"ve had no issues with it whatsoever. It"s a race car so there"s plenty of little things on it condition wise, but nothing major. If you"d like any more detail or closeups, let me know. This is a turn-key working car and a great place to start from if you have higher aspirations that I did.
I have a 24" enclosed trailer that I could sell with it if that"s something you need which I value at $7500.
I may be able to transport it within a reasonable distance in the Southwest.
