Vehicle description
For sale is a 1998 GTRA Panoz race car that started life as a Panoz school car at Road Atlanta. Since then many improvements have been made to the car to make it suitable for racing in organizations such as SVRA and VARA among others. The car came out west from Gary Jones Motorsports in Georgia and was originally purchased from a dealer located at Spring Mountain Raceway in Pahrump, NV. Being an early car the body is constructed of fiberglass.
This particular car has been sorted out and is race ready and capable of turning 1:30 at Willow Springs 2.5 mile track.
Let me start where everyone likes to start…at the motor. A FORD Motorsports short block assembly is the basis of the power plant. Part number M-6009-427F SCAT forged steel crank and connecting rods. It now has JE pistons, AFR 1450 cylinder heads and a Crane (448031) solid roller camshaft and lifters. Crane valve springs work with Ferrea stainless valves and Manley pushrods. Proform shaft mount rocker system handles the opening and closing of the valves. Atop the engine sits a Victor Jr single plane intake topped by a Holley HP 950 carb. Ignition is provided by a Crane electronic box along with a Crane distributor. Dyno numbers show 592hp @ 6300rpm and 554 torque @ 5600rpm. The headers were custom built on the car to give adequate clearance all around. The oiling system is a dry sump provided by an Aviaid pump along with a Peterson oil tank located at the right rear of the car. No low oil pressures as a result of G’s in the corners. The oil is cooled by a Setrab oil cooler. The motor was assembled by RC Performance in Huntington Beach, Ca. a noted high performance shop.
Let’s move on to the drivetrain. An aluminum flywheel and Centerforce clutch gets the power to the TKO 600 5 speed gearbox with 5 th gear overdriven at .82. The clutch assembly is enclosed in a QuickTime spun steel bellhousing. A Ford TruTrack 9” rear end with 3.73 gearing sends the power to the floater axles.
The brakes are Brembo at all corners. Shocks are Koni adjustable all round and they are rebuildable. A Fuel Safe fuel cell handles the fuel and a Holley Blue pump gets it to the engine. As can be seen in the pictures of the interior a fire system is installed along with complete instrumentation with a low Oil pressure light. Steering is power operated with an under driven pulley to put less strain on the pump at high RPM’s. The car is plumbed with a Cool Suit system and is included with the sale of the car. The car has an ABM Transponder and it’s included with the sale.
The 4 link rear suspension system has been modified and strengthened as this was a noted issue with these cars. Also the motor mounts have been strengthened as well. These cars were never originally designed to handle the kinds of horsepower they are seeing today. This is a very IMPORTANT upgrade and this car has them.
The seller is including a 2 nd exhaust system that can be installed for use at tracks like Laguna Seca that have sound restrictions.
This is a link to a YouTube video of a walk around as the car idles.

Many spares are included with the sale such as power steering rack, belts, clutch cable, and 2 additional sets of wheels and tires. One set of wheels are BBS and the other 2 are FR as shown in the pictures.
A $500 deposit is required upon a successful auction. The car is being sold on a bill of sale only. We can assist with any shipping requirements you might have.
