Vehicle description
You can be the one who breaks 20k miles on this camper as you head out on the open road. Put the drinks and sandwich fixin"s in the onboard fridge. That fridge runs on the house battery when you"re on the move or on A/C power when you"re settled at the campground. It"s as clean as it was when new. Seriously, there are no funny smells or colors in the refrigerator. The dash air blows cold and has been converted to R-134. The recently replaced (in 2007) roof air works great, too, so you"ll sleep in cool comfort. The futon is a couch by day and folds magically into a bed for two who like to snuggle all night long. If you don"t love snuggling, you can throw your lover in a tent nearby. There are many onboard storage spaces in the van for things like tents and sleeping bags.
The single burner stove runs on white gas and seems like it"s never been used. The Kenmore microwave will make your popcorn lickety-split. Perhaps you"ll warm up the baked beans in that microwave and then need to wash a dish afterwards. If so, there"s a sink with running water right there for the task.
The van has two gas tanks, so you can keep going for hours. If she needs to potty while you"re barreling down the Montana road at 80mph, there"s no need to stop your progress, you can get there faster if she just uses the onboard loo. The toilet looks like it"s never been used for heavy duty, so there aren"t yucky smells coming from it.
There aren"t any leaks coming from the roof. I"m not sure these fiberglass rooftops are known for leaking, but this van has lived its life in a garage.
The 5.8L engine runs exactly as you"d expect with 18k, and the transmission behaves perfectly too. It drives great on it"s new Cooper tires. The van has comfy captains chairs and cruise control. There"s an aftermarket radio with Bluetooth capability. Your co-pilot can swivel her chair backwards to be part of the party or forward to be a navigator. There are mood lighting options from the pilot"s chair for the house.
The van is 26 years old, but with so few actual miles, the thing is in new / unusued condition.
The serpentine belt was just replaced. (We put a Gates belt on it, not the cardboard ones they sell at AutoZone)
I replaced the headlights because the old ones were kind of dingy and gray.

The is one mysterious and disappointing thing about this van. The windshield has a haze to it. I"ve scrubbed and scrubbed on it. I did a little bit of reading and I understand that this is a Ford thing, but I"m not sure what the solution is. I"ve tried elbow grease to no avail. Maybe you"ve seen this before and you know the antidote. The windshield is otherwise perfect.
Oh, look! I made a YouTube video. Take a little tour of the van, if you"ve got 9 minutes to spare.
