Vehicle description
This engine has been a faithful member of the family, but owing to (a) California Air Resource Board restrictions* , and (b) I"ve run out of storage space, this gem drew the short straw. And honestly, I can only drive one rig at a time, and this one"s been sitting more often than the others.
1983 Pierce Dash, ex-Kalamazoo Township (Michigan), where she ran until 2010 or so, when it was sold off at auction to a private owner in Wisconsin. He looked after the engine until late 2012, when it joined us, and it"s been here ever since (so doing the math, we"re the third owner).
1250 GPM, 750 gallon tank (stainless steel I believe), no foam. Three 2.5" discharges on the driver side at the panel (one discharge is OOS, we"ve never needed them all to service it), a 6-inch intake with TFT intake valve on it, and a 2.5" suction all here. Two 2.5" discharges on the rear, and 2.5" on the officer side along with another 6" intake (capped. . if I can find a cap "to go") and a 2.5" suction.
Seats four total: driver, officer/passenger, and two rear-facing jump seats that face the open traverse section.
Rear lower compartments are traverse; the sides and lower doors are all interconnected in one large area (generator tray used to be there, but wasn"t in the sale when it came to us). The roof scene flood lights are untested; we"ve never used "em - or tried to.
Recent service includes: ► Replaced air compressor (spring 2018) ► All plumbing leaks were corrected, and an FRC TankVision LED water level gauge installed (spring 2018); addressed various small age-related issues during that time
► Pump tested ~February 2018, and pumps to rated capacity. Vacuum test was either a fail or not performed (can"t recall, but recorded as a Fail) ► Until 12-18 years ago, this was run at least a few times a month, pumped and logged some solid mileage (we purchased it August 2012 at 31,500 miles) without any unexpected troubles ► Upgraded lighting (69" Code 3 MX7000 lightbar), LED lower zone Whelen front and rear lighting (red to the fronts behind a trooper-compliant clear lens). If you"re authorized, we can scrape up colored lenses for the bar that"s clear today
She"s also not a youngster: ► Usual dents, dings and bends from a 36-year-old engine that ran and was used in-service for ~27 years ► The tank leaks. It"s not a deluge or a stuck pig, but over time the full tank. . won"t be ► There is rust/corrosion at both the top of the fill tower and its base atop the tank ► Once upon a time, the Vacuum gauge was non-op; I recall it was fixed, but not if it is back in the pink
► Last year, the fire shop noted some corrosion/rust below the pump panel step (no doubt from years of slow drips from the 6" LDH intake valves) ► Non-air-ride, 1983 seating. Driver side is worn but functional, passenger side is miserable (has one of those piston things to cushion the bounces, but seems to have lost its ommph. . typically it"s a solo drive, so I"ve not done anything with it)
It"s a lot of engine in a small package - just 24 feet 9 inches from bumper to bumper; the usual ~8 feet wide and 8 feet tall. GVWR is 37,180, but that"s gross, not as she stands; likely closer to the 30,000 range today.
What Goes and Doesn"t: ► If it"s bolted on, with the exception of the Federal Q, it goes; this includes the Real Wheels simulators we added and other various accessories ► Caps, elbows, adapters, and tools pictured and not included ► Ladders are not included; if you want the ladder boot, it"s yours ► We ran this one with 4" Storz hose and connections, so the hose bed of used 4" Storz (maybe 400-500 feet?) AND the newer TFT Intake Ball Valve with 4" Storz WILL STAY
Happy to grab more photos of anything specific, or host an in-person inspection if you fancy it.
As-is where in in Livermore, CA (San Francisco Bay Area). I"d drive it comfortably anywhere; that"s how it got here from Wisconsin, and how we regularly roll rigs around the USA. $500 deposit within 48-hours, we can store it for a reasonable period whilst you arrange transportation. (Just be sure to clear it with the spouse or such BEFORE you bid.)
If you"re within a reasonable distance, we may be able to help arrange it to be driven to you as well, or if you"re transport-inclined, we can put you in touch with the local lowboy/tow outfit that moves our stuff when things to move.
* CARB currently has this vehicle under a "limited operation" restriction, because (1) it does not have a retrofitted/particulate gizmo installed, and (2) it"s currently NOT carrying California Historic license plates. If you"re a Golden State resident, you are able to lift the restriction by either the $15k+ retrofit - your call, but that"s a lot of green - OR registering it as a Historic Vehicle in California. (It"s old enough fo" sure.)
