Vehicle description
Up for sale is my 1980 Peterbilt 359 Short HoodTractor with 60" Sleeper This tractor is equipped with a Caterpillar3406B engine that, according to the previous owner, was rebuilt approximately200,000 miles ago. I do not have any documentation on this. However, whenreplacing the Oil Cooler I had to look up both the original engine and thisrebuilt engine on microfiche at the Caterpillar dealer to make sure I got theright Oil Cooler. The timeframe quoted by the original owner appeared to fit fromwhat I saw on the microfiche. The transmission is a 13-speed which was alsorebuilt approximately 200,000 miles ago according to the previous owner. Boththe engine and transmission are in good working order. The truck was driven over the road by theprevious owner"s son. When the truck went in for service the drain plugs onboth the engine and the transmission were not properly tightened. Hence therebuild of both was necessitated at approximately 200,000 miles ago. The previous owner used the truck to haul hiscustom built toy/race car hauler from 2000 on and he and his wife lived in thetrailer from 2006 to 2015. I bought the truck and trailer in 2015 with theintent to remodel the trailer and use the rig to haul my cars to the racetrack. However, family obligations made that impractical and the truck has sat since. Since purchasing the truck I have had thefollowing work done: Replaced all air bags (2015) Replaced all brake cans Replaced exhaust Y-pipe and Stacks (2015) Replaced all tires (2015) Replaced front springs (2016) Replaced oil/water cooler (2016) Replaced batteries (2020) Replaced all air hoses from manifolds out to brake cans, air bags, gladhands, transmission, interaxle lockout (2020) When I was driving the truck in 2015/2016 I wasable to get successful DOT inspections without any problems. Known Issues: There is an issue with the valve or the air lines to the OEM airhorns on the roof. That"s why there"s an electrically activated set of airhorns on the driver"s side. The electrical city horn needs to be replaced. The interior was taken out of the sleeper and will need to be replaced. The wiring for the gladhands was corroded and was spliced/soldered under the cab. The windshield washer does not function. The tank behind the driver"s seat needs parts and the air pressure to it needs to be re-connected. Otherwise the tractor is in good working order and drives well.
The previous set of tires was replaced with new steer tires all around in 2015 and the current set of tires has less than 10,000 miles on them.
The tractor is located just north of Houston. I can pick up prospective buyers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to bring to the storage lot as well as arrange for a trip permit & trip insurance for a test drive.
In addition to the tractor I also have a 3KW diesel generator available that could be mounted on the frame just past the fuel tank on either side to be used as an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). You can look at my other items up for auction to see the generator and bid on it.
I also have a double drop van trailer that was converted into a toy hauler/race car hauler that has had the interior taken out of it and needs to be completed. You can look at my other items up for auction to see the trailer and bid on it.
