Vehicle description

In May of 2018, I bought this 1978 Chinook Newport/Toyota HiLux on eBay. This is the Newport model with the split back Dutch door at the right rear. This was an anniversary present for my wife- -we had watched these Chinooks for years. Unfortunately, after she got over the surprise, she decided it was not to be a part of our life. I held off until now hoping her mind would change. .it has not. For the last couple of years, it sat in my front yard under a tarp. Last month, I put in two new batteries and it started right up proving it is hard to stop the Toyota 20R engine. As I get older, I realize the chance of my camping lessens and it is time to sell this and move on. In the three plus years I have owned it, I have put less than 50 miles on the odometer. Will be perfect for cruising to mountains or beaches for overnights or weeks- -no Motel costs. It was in Utah when I bought it sight unseen- -had it flatbedded over to our home in St. Helens. The title is totally clear and I have receipts from two previous owners for all the following who took steps to make everything perfect under the hood: Engine rebuild: $2100 (June 2016)Tire replacement and rebalance - $600 (April 2016)New radiator and fan clutch - $400 (August 2016)New Alternator (June 2017)New Clutch Slave Cylinder (July 2017)New Muffler (October 2016)New brake master cylinder & flasher assembly - $470 (July 2016)Carburetor rebuild - $400 (receipt misplaced). All of the above done within the last 5000 miles and to reiterate, even though much of this was done in 2016, five years ago, it also did not travel anywhere for three of those years. The previous owner also put in a new air conditioning unit for about $1000 that will cool down the whole cab in minutes- -do not have that receipt. New carpet in the front along with seat covers were added. Also previous owner had started to install back up rear view camera. .not completed but I have all necessary parts. This side door Chinook has the table that drops down to create a bed along with sleeping space above the cab One non-original addition to this Chinook is a two foot long bicycle platform added to the rear bumper area- -could easily be modified for carrying spare tire, toolbox and/or gasoline can. For now, it has a spare tire sitting on it. The four tires on the vehicle are in sound shape and mounted on the original wheels. Powered by the revered 4 cylinder Toyota 20R engine. It has a manual 5 speed transmission. Mileage is supposedly 18-22 city/highway. Original radiator overflow reserve container is broken but replaced with a new container that is not original but does the job.Odometer shows 73459. I have no reason to doubt this.My wife also had a fear of propane, so I had the propane tank removed- -all connections remain. Includes original propane stove, fridge and heater and a sink. They were all represented to me as working by the previous owner. I have verified that the freezer works by plugging in the Dometic refrigerator to AC electricity (it has that option in addition to propane). Also has a portable chem-toilet in fine condition. Plus there is a working flat screen TV.Also has new Haynes manual for 78 Hilux truck as well as CDR of Chinook manuals for vehicle and appliances within….and original owner’s manual along with the very hard-to-find but incredibly helpful How To Keep Your Toyota Alive book.
