“Everything under the hood is in great condition. I put a lot of money under the hood in the past 18 months, see details below. Exterior bodywork is in good condition with no major dents or scratches, no leaks, no structural issues. Interior is old, there's some wear-and-tear. I liked it that way. You can do her up if you want.” |

Vehicle description
I am selling my beautiful 1978 Toyota Chinook "Newport" series RV. This is a one of a kind collector"s item. Made with a seamless hardtop fiberglass shell, built on Hi-Lux chassis, with the ever reliable 20R engine.
Selling this RV feels like putting my own grandmother up for sale. That"s how much I"ve grown to love her. She"s old. she"s a bit slow, she gets tired now and then and needs a rest. But she will never, ever let you down. She will always start first time. And when you really get motoring along some quiet dusty road and the wind picks up, you"ll hear her whistle. It sounds like she"s singing. Unfortunately I"m moving back to the UK and she wouldn"t like it there. It rains a lot. She"d get arthritis. So I have to sell.
She"s all up-to-date with smog checks, etc. The title is totally clear. I"ve spent around $4000 getting everything into perfect condition under the hood. I have receipts for all of the following. .
Engine rebuild - $2100
Tire replacement & rebalance - $600
New radiator and fan clutch - $400
New battery and cables - $360
New brake master cylinder & flasher assembly - $470
And the previous owner spent $5000 approx. on a brand new air-conditioning unit which cools the whole cab in minutes.
I"ll wager she"s in better condition than most late 70s Toyota Chinooks currently on the road. The exterior bodywork is in great condition. No major dents, just a few little bits of rust here and there, nothing structurally wrong. No leaks or anything like that. She"s lived in the desert her whole life. I bought her off a guy in Arizona and spent most of my time driving in the south west. The paint is sun-bleached to hell so if you want her looking brand new you might have to spend some money there.
She"s clean inside and out for a 40yr old vehicle, but is by no means "mint". The cabin is untouched since she left the factory, as far as I know. I wanted to keep it that way. It"s like a time capsule. So it"s got wear-and-tear. The fabric cushions probably need replacing, maybe she needs a lick of paint inside. You can treat it like a project. Or just leave her looking like she just blasted into the future from a Rolling Stones concert in 1978.
For what she is, she"s in great condition, and has taken me many miles with many smiles. Come have a look any time. I"ll show you around the old gal. She deserves a great home and a loving owner. She"s always done right by me. Boy do we have some stories.
Peace,
Nicholas
