1978 Mid Ranger Chevy Camper by Hop-Cap for sale. Located in Madison, WI.
This Vintage Camper is used, with much of the original furnishings and finishes. It has a very distinct look, having an aluminum exterior frame and a very retro look. The previous owner did replace the carpet with laminate flooring. Please be aware that many of the surfaces are rough and it is in need of some TLC. Think of it as a project camper. Also be aware that the previous owner pulled out the toilet intending to replace it, but never did. We used a portable toilet, but never had the time to do more thorough renovations. This camper needs someone who has the time to restore it to its former glory.
According to the previous owner, the first owner owned it for 30 years and used it to go to racing shows and has towed a race car from the hitch. He said they traveled the whole country and raced all over. They also would stand on the top of the camper to watch the races. There is a dive flag painted on the roof, so we assume it was used for dive trips as well. The transmission was rebuilt by the previous owner. The engine runs well and drives. The ceiling height by the back door, stove, and bathroom is 6" 1". The rest of the rear area is 5" 1" in the sink, refrigerator, couch and sleeping area.
About Hop Cap: A recreational vehicle brand that entered the marketplace during the 1970s, Hop-Cap initially constructed Class C motorhomes said to combine camper, van and mini motorhome design aspects. The 17-foot to 25-foot motorhomes concluded production after the 1980 model year with Hop-Cap switching to park model and travel trailer construction. Hop-Cap would end recreational vehicle production after the 1984 model year.
