Vehicle description
This is a original condition chinook, there is water damage and other damage evident with age. There is rust throughout the vehicle, though in my unprofessional opinion the frame looks to be in good condition. All appliances were working at the time of testing. The engine is running fine once warmed up, with the exception of a rough idle. There is a small oil pan leak. The charge light has recently turned on. I believe it is the voltage regulator as it still seems to be charging. Toilet is no longer hooked up to black tank.
I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END AUCTION EARLY AS IT IS LISTED LOCALLY
Details
It"s a 2 owner rv before me, the gentlemen I purchased it from bought in 1979.
Nostalgic 1978 Chinook Newport 20R 4 speed manual
Very rare.
Molded Fiberglass (on par with airstream durability)
Similar to the Sunrader model, but smaller and does better economically.
All original basically. It"s a illinois vehicle, so it has a small amount of surface rust. The frame is good. The previous owner painted everything underneath with rustoleum. Fiberglass has no dents or cracks that I"ve noticed. Very solid. The drivers door is the only area with extensive rust damage. I sourced a few replacements for $125-$150. This is a project as the interior needs freshening. It has water damage here and there on some walls. Nothing crazy though. It has one small soft spot near the entrance door likely from a faulty seal. Very easy repair. The tires have plenty of tread (they look new) but they are dry rotted. It does have a cracked windshield. The stove, furnace, and 3 way fridge all were working at time of testing. She starts right up and runs great. A little more pickup than the bigger ones. This thing gets attention everywhere you go. People love it. It"s guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drive it. The 70s styling is so unique. The shell is the valuable part of this unit, many are transporting them to newer 4x4 shells. This unit on a newer chassis would go for 25-40k.
Will easily do 65+ MPH and get 17+ MPG
I just gave it a full tuneup (plugs, wires, rotor, alternator belt, and cap), but it could use a carb clean as it idles a bit rough still. Once you get moving it"s fine. I do have a Weber 32/36 carb with ALL the de smog parts I will include for a winning bid of over $4200
