Vehicle description

The GMC motorhome is a legend among RVs, and if you don’t already know why, here’s a good primer: http:/ www.motorhome.com/top-stories/the-classic-ride-retro-reliability/
These classics are increasingly hard to find, and this one is the even rarer 23-foot model. The reduced length makes it handle more like a van than an RV, allowing you to turn, park, and navigate through cities without the terror of piloting a full-length super bus. Not to mention the reduced weight improves mileage to around 11 MPG—about the same as the average pickup truck! All this without losing any key interior features.
This coach’s original owner was a wealthy eccentric, and after extensive renovations he only put 200 miles on it. (I have the original sales document and a newspaper clipping of the original classified ad!) The second owner put only a few thousand more, and after my trips around the country, the odometer still only reads an insane * *29,466 miles* *
This 41-year-old beast is still young at heart! Even the AC and cruise control still work!
I bought this coach after my first big Hollywood windfall and spent well over $50,000 turning it into a classy home on wheels. The list of improvements is long, but from what I have documented…
MECHANICAL UPGRADES
3.55 final drive transmission gearing
Eagle aluminum wheels
Quad bag suspension system
Macerator black water pump with extra long hose
Modernized electrical system with new inverter and high capacity marine batteries
Larger propane tank
Dual-panel rooftop solar system keeps entire coach fully powered even on cloudy days
All side windows replaced with modern edgeless frames (reduces wind drag/noise) and tinted glass (cools down interior)
INTERIOR UPGRADES
Flexsteel folding sofa bed with soft, breathable Ultraleather upholstery
Rear folding sofas re-upholstered in Ultraleather
Dimmable warm LED lighting throughout
New butcher block countertops
Wood-look marine-grade vinyl plank flooring
All new drawers and cabinet doors
All wood paneling refinished
New ceiling liner
New carpet in cockpit
New vinyl on all other interior surfaces
New sink and sprayer faucet
New toilet, shower, and shower curtains
New microwave
Gas water heater (replaced last year)
Gas fridge (replaced last year)
Dual level window blinds with both daylight privacy screens and full blackout screens
Kenmore stereo system with independent amp, front and rear speakers, subwoofer, and power-folding touch screen and backup camera (camera needs to be replaced)
KNOWN ISSUES
Original Onan generator will not start - may be fixable but I’d recommend upgrading anyway. Generator only needed to run rooftop AC, as the solar panels power everything else. (AC will run if you’re connected to shore power.)
A few areas of water damage from earlier leaks, now patched (see photos)
One window blind box has partially come loose from wall
Some warped flooring from earlier fridge leak
Bathroom vent fan is broken
Various dings and cracks in cockpit and dash plastic
Needs new tires
I had some amazing journeys in this rig and I can barely make myself sell her, but my lifestyle has changed, money is tight, and it"s time to pass her on to the next adventurer. If that"s you, give me a call, just be prepared to get a lot of honks and thumbs-up on the freeway, and a crowd of admirers at every gas station. .
