One of a kind 1977 gmc motorhome for sale. In excellent condition for a 41 yr old vehicle. All appliances and air conditioners work. 6kw generator and lp gas tank onboard. Lots of manuals and extra parts included. Heated and insulated floors. Also included, 5 pc sound system, spare airbag, fluid extractor, and spare fluids.
The GMC motorhome was a Class A model (designed to be a motorhome, not a truck or van conversion) made from 1973 thru 1978. It has several unique and desirable design aspects that set it apart from any other RV made before or since:
• Front Wheel Drive - this is the same drivetrain from an Oldsmobile Toronado or a Cadillac Eldorado from the same era (455 Oldsmobile Rocket mated to a THM425 automatic transmission). Being front wheel drive makes the floor of the living area very low as there is no drive axle to the rear. Step-in height is about 8-10 inches. Although the overall exterior height including A/C is only 10 feet meaning that a 6 foot tall person can stand comfortably inside. The drivetrain configuration also makes for easy maneuverability, a smaller turning radius, and great reliability.
• Aluminum/Fiberglass body panels and aluminum upper body framing - The body will not rust, rot, or delaminate. It is very lightweight and strong for its size.
• Airbagged tandem rear wheels on bogeys - The smoothness of the ride compared to other motorhomes is remarkable. The left and right airbags can be adjusted to level when parking, and are automatically leveled during driving.
• Cabover/cab-forward cockpit - great visibility through a large windshield and driver placement over the left wheel makes accurate driving and turning easy.
• Lots of large windows - GMCs are bright and cheery due to 4 large windows in the front living area and 3 in the sleeping area plus skylights.
There is an enthusiastic and helpful community of people keeping these machines on the road and improving the system designs even further. There is even a nationwide list of owners who have volunteered to let other GMC owners stay at their homes at any time for emergencies, repairs, or just to meet up.
Note: I have made every effort to accurately list the condition of this vehicle but it is nearly impossible to describe every aspect of this incredible machine; if you have any questions, please ask. It is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
