Vehicle description

1977 American Clipper Class C Motorhome I know very little about RV’s, so please do your homework. I also suggest inspecting the vehicle in person, as it is being sold “As is”. I know quite a lot about vintage cars & MC’s, but not RV"s and do not profess to being an expert. I bought and shipped in this vintage RV because it was a very cool, original Clipper RV. These RV’s have a ton of history and was going to use it as a local beach/ surf mobile because it was described and photographed in a way that made it look bigger than it was. At 21 feet, it is a great way to go on road trips or to the beach, but unfortunately, too small for my needs. I spent a lot of money buying and shipping it in and am bummed that I will need something about six feet larger to fit all I want to do with it. This American Clipper is basically a time capsule of how things were done in the 70’s and is probably one of the cleanest ones I’ve seen online. With all that known, you should still know what you"re buying, which is a 42 year old vintage RV. It’s very clean for it’s age, but it definitely looks slightly better in the photo’s and like any vintage vehicle, could use some detailing, shampoo carpets, upgrading and personalizing, to suit your needs. Here’s what your buying: RV has roughly 105k miles Dodge 440 engine with 3 speed transmission. It does run well and starts right up. It shifts through the gears just fine. I don"t see any major oil leaks, which is unusual for this mileage. Gauges all work and seem accurate. Steering and brakes are consistent with a this type of vehicle and mileage. Drives good. The tires have a lot of tread but I don"t know how old they are. Body and paint are good. They look slightly better in pictures that in real life, but a detail will let it shine like the sun!. There are signs of damage to the fiberglass where the awning may have been hit, plus miscellaneous other areas. There are two cracks above the windshield area that are in the fiberglass. According to the person I got the unit from the roof A/C and Heater work great, but I don"t know how to check them. I wouldn"t guarantee it. The glass is all good with no breaks. The inside is in good, original condition, but could use a cleaning on the carpet and cushions. There are various small areas of water damage to the ceiling. It had or has water leaks and needs repairing in those areas and after checking the one piece fiberglass roof, could be fixed very simply with caulking or a roll on roof coating. The back door hangs and drags depending on how the RV is leveled. Not sure why this is. Could be floor rot or just sag in the body. Just want it pointed out. Overall it"s a complete unit and very worthy of a restoration. I just don"t want anyone bidding on it, thinking that it"s in mint condition, super low mile, peach, but if you’re looking for your time capsule and good at doing some simple fixes and elbow grease, she’s your Huckleberry!. It"s a driver quality that needs work but would be amazing with a restoration.
Feel free to ask questions and I"ll do my best to answer. Good Luck & happy bidding! RV is listed for sale locally and seller reserves the right to end auction at anytime. Buyer is responsible for pick up and shipping. I have used several reputable company"s over the last ten years and can help, if needed.
