Vehicle description
1976 GMC Motorhome This a very unique, collectible and sought after vehicle, this motorhome was built entirely by General Motors from 1974-1978 (the majority of motorhomes use a heavy duty truck chassis fitted with a motorhome coach builder body). The GMC is front wheel drive utilizing the 455 Oldsmobils Rocket engine, with the Toronado front drive system. The rear suspension was revolutionary for its time, tandem wheels front to back with an air bag suspension, the lack of a transverse axle, and springs, coupled with the front drive system allowed the coach to be much lower, ride and handle better than its truck frame competition.
This particular example was donated to the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund (www.SFFBF.org), by an elderly gentleman that could no longer use and enjoy the coach. We do not know a whole lot about is history. .I do not know what model it is / was as it was repainted at some point. The front nose fiberglass was damaged, along with the grill and the bumper, we had it repaired by a professional body shop, the bumper, and grill was replaced, and the nose was repainted. The paint overall shows well, it does have some fading, and blemishes in areas, along with some clear coat peeling (pictured).
The interior shows very well, the couch, dinette and walls appear to be original, the front seats are a leatherette and appear to have been recently replaced, they are quite nice. The microwave and television are recent upgrades. The engine was recently serviced / tuned up, as well as the generator. The generator runs very well powering the 110v system, including the roof AC unit which blows cold.
The motorhome runs and drives very nice, the dash AC system blows cool, but not cold. Chassis battery recently replaced. The tires are in good condition, and the rear airbags appear to have been replaced recently.
There is extensive paperwork and documentation included with it, including the factory GM owners manual(s) service and parts manuals.
As I said we don"t know too much about it, I have experience with not only old cars, but motorhomes and RVs as well, this would not be difficult to refresh and make very nice and reliable; with that being said: since we don"t know a lot about it I would recommend the new buyer go through all chassis and engine systems, as well as all systems of the coach.
I will do best to assist and answer questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for your interest.
If you are the high bidder and wish to arrange for shipping you are responsible for that, we will assist the best we can.
