This is a beautiful, well preserved example of a classic Airstream motorhome!
The Argosy model can be distinguished from a traditional Airstream due to its steel end caps and painted exterior. Argosy motorhomes are known for their extremely spacious interior. It is distinguished from smaller models b y its very large and spacious rear bathroom with a full bath/shower combo, bedroom area with two twin beds, large kitchen, full fridge, front captain seats with a fold down table, and futon sofa in the front. The front captains chairs swivel and feature the original vinyl. There are some areas where the thread is loose on the seams and will need to be restitched by overall the vinyl presents well, as seen in the pictures.
With a total length of 28 feet, this Airstream would be great for boon docking and camping. Due to its relatively light weight of approximately 12,000 pounds and aluminum body with a steel frame, it is one of the lightest motorhomes of its size. It features a tow package so you can bring along your mother in law suite in the form of a small camper, or pull a car behind you.
The Chevy 454 motor paired with a 400 turbo transmission provides plenty of power to get you were you need to go. It runs and drives excellent and smooth, and feels like driving a Cadillac. We went through the engine and rebuilt the carburetor, adjusted the idle, and replaced the water pump and hoses as needed. The brakes and brake lines were also recently replaced, and the previous owner installed a new engine within the last 10 years. We test drove the motorhome for a total of 300 miles, including pickup from the previous owner.
There are no coolant or oil leaks at all and the engine stays approximately 190 degrees even on hot days while driving long distances and has been thoroughly tested. It is ready to be picked up and driven anywhere. It will easily cruise at 70 mph or even faster if necessary and does feature cruise control. The dash lights work, the headlights and all the tail lights are present and in good order. It averages about 10 miles per gallon on the highway which is great for its size and age.
The onboard generator has only around 500 hours and runs fantastic. The onboard AC in the front works, as well as the heat. The rear AC was working and blowing ice cold when we purchased the motorhome but the fan went out and will need replaced. The compressor still kicks on. The hydraulic leveling jacks are untested (we suggest not testing them due to their tendency to get stuck on these older Airstream motorhomes).
The folding staircase has a release lever that makes it super easy and convenient to let down the stairs.
There are some minor cosmetic blemishes on the interior, namely some adhesive that was used to try and seal a crack in the fiberglass of the refrigerator vent. You can see it (an orangish tint) in the pictures. This could be easily removed with Goo Be Gone. Another thing is that the shower tray was removed in the rear and needs replaced, but the tanks are intact beneath it.
The exterior aluminum on this Argosy is in fantastic shape with only a few minor cosmetic blemishes. For example, there is some paint peeling and flaking in some areas, especially on the end caps. There is some slight surface rust where some of the flakes were that could be easily removed when repainting the end caps.
The rear axel is a dually, and so the motor coach features 6 tires which are all brand new and were replaced a few weeks ago with DoubleCoin RT600s for $2175. The tires are 12ply, a thicker tire with more durability than other brands. The rims feature spin offs so they will never fall off while you are driving. We have three sets of keys for the motorhome that will come with it.
This Argosy features 4 moon windows in the living room area which are highly coveted in the motorhomes. This provides extra light in the cabin, which paired with the amount of windows makes it feel light and airy inside.
In the kitchen there is an original sink, newly replaced 4 top stove and oven with stickers still attached, a newer model gas/electric refrigerator. All were tested and are in working order. The propane tank on the side of the unit is behind a door and all propane systems function as they should. All of the original cabinets throughout seem to be intact and in good shape. The floor is solid is solid throughout but the carpet could use replacement or cleaning. The frame is very solid and the lower trim is clean all the way around the motorhome. The water heater also appears to be new. The toilet also appears to be new and unused and is in working order.
All onboard electrical systems are working although some bulbs are burnt out. This motorhome does come with many, many replacement parts that the previous owner meticulously collected, including replacement bulbs, gaskets, an extra starter, window seals, fuses, etc.
Being a 44 year old motorhome, it is not perfect but it is in great overall condition and is ready to camp immediately!
