1967 PITTS AIRFRAME, SINGLE SEAT, 4 AILERON, 1175 TT, FRESH COVER, HURT, CHEAP! THE PITTS SPECIAL IS PROBABLY THE FIRST AIRPLANE MOST PEOPLE THINK OF IF YOU SAY AEROBATIC BIPLANE! LIKE ALL SMALL HIGHWING FABRIC TAILDRAGGERS ARE “CUBS”. THE PITTS SPECIAL GETS IT’S FAMILIARITY FROM THE FACT THAT IT IS THE PERFECT ACRO AIRPLANE FOR THE OWNER/PILOT. GOOD FOR 1 ST TIME SERIOUS ACROBATICS OR FOR THE PROFESSIONAL! FOR ME PERSONALLY, I SAW THE RED DEVILS AEROBATIC TEAM MANY TIMES WHILE GROWING UP IN THE 1970’S AND THESE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AEROBATIC PILOTS USED THE PITTS! THIS AIRPLANE WAS STARTED IN 1964. COMPLETION AND FIRST FLIGHT WAS 1966. AIRWORTHINESS GRANTED LATE 1966. FLOWN SPARINGLY, AS MOST PITTS ARE, SO EVEN NOW THERE ARE ONLY 1,175 HOURS SINCE NEW! STATING IN 2016, THE AIRPLANE WAS STRIPPED TO WOOD AND TUBING, INSPECTED AND REVARNISHED AS REQUIRED AND RECOVERED WITH CECONITE IN LATE 2017! THE NEXT ANNUAL WAS 9/2/19. AND THE NEXT THING WE KNOW IS THE AIRPLANE RAN OUT OF FUEL, LANDED OFF-AIRPORT AND LOST CONTROL ON THE LANDING. DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED! THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WAS AN 0-290, 125 H.P. IN THE 1970’S, IT WAS REPLACED WITH AN 0-360, 180 H.P. DYNAFOCAL ENGINE. THE ENGINE SUSTAINED SERIOUS DAMAGE AND A PROP STRIKE IN THIS INCIDENT. WE HAVE REMOVED THE ENGINE FROM THE MOUNT AND THE ENGINE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION! MOST PITTS NOWADAYS USE THE 0-360 180 H.P., AS THEY ARE PLENTIFUL, POWERFUL FOR THE WEIGHT AND ALMOST BULLETPROOF IN NORMAL USE! YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND ANY NUMBER OF ENGINES TO CHOOSE FROM WHEN YOU ARE READY! THE AIRFRAME IS ALSO DAMAGED, AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES. THE RIGHT GEAR LEG BENT PARTIALLY UNDER THE AIRPLANE, ALLOWING THE RIGHT WINGS TO TOUCH AT THEIR TIPS AND THE AIRPLANE ENDED UP ON IT’S NOSE. IT DID NOT FLIP OVER, HOWEVER, SO THE DAMAGE IS MUCH LESS THAN IT COULD HAVE BEEN. EVEN SO; THE COWLING IS VIRTUALLY DESTROYED. THE FIREWALL IS DAMAGED BUT NOT AS BAD AS THE COWL THE FUSELAGE AFT OF THE FIREWALL IS MOSTLY STRAIGHT, INCLUDING THE BELLY, THE COCKPIT AREA AND THE TAILCONE. THE RESULT OF THE LEFT GEAR NOT COLLAPSING OR BEING DAMAGED AND THE RIGHT NOT PUSHING INTO THE BELLY! ALL 3 WINGS HAVE DAMAGE, THE RIGHT AT THE TIPS AND THE LEFT LOWER MIDSPAN. THE RUDDER IS DAMAGED AT THE BOTTOM, ODDS ARE FROM THE ROUGH TERRAIN THE VERTICAL FIN AND HORIZONTALS AND ELEVATORS ARE NOT DAMAGED. THE RIGHT AXLE IS BROKEN BUT BOTH CLEVELAND WHEELS AND BRAKES LOOK GOOD. THE TAILWHEEL ASSEMBLY LOOKS OK BUT IT PARTIALLY BROKE AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSELAGE. THE CABANE STRUTS AND FLYING WIRES SEEM TO BE OK INSIDE, THE DASH IS COMPLETE WITH MOST FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTUMENTATION REQUIRED, BUT THERE ARE NO AVIONICS INSTALLED. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM SOME OF THE PHOTOS, THE AIRFRAME IS CURRENTLY DISASSEMBLED AND LOCATED IN A STORAGE LOCKER IN bulivar, TENN. WE WILL PAY THE RENTAL FEE FOR UP TO 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION AND YOU ARE FREE TO PAY LONGER IF YOU NEED MORE TIME. AS THE PITTS SPECIAL IS NOT A VERY BIG OR HEAVY AIRPLANE, IT WILL BE EASY TO LOAD AND TRANSPORT.
