THE SAME CABIN AND WINGS AS THE REST OF THE CHEROKEE LINE, SO UNLIKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CESSNA 150 (SMALL, CRAMPED AND UNDERPOWERED) TO THE 172, THE 140 PILOT ENJOYS THE SAME LEGROOM AS THE ARROW OR 235 OF THE SAME VINTAGE! THE 140 WAS OFFERED AS A 2 PLACE “TRAINER ONLY”, BUT MOST BUYERS, INCLUDING THIS ONE, OPTED FOR THE 4 SEAT PACKAGE, WHICH OFFERS 2 SMALL BUCKET SEATS IN THE REAR INSTEAD OF THE 180’S BENCH SEAT. FULL SEAT BELTS IN REAR AND NO WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS. THE 140 IS A MARKETING NAME ONLY, ALL CHEROKEE 140’S HAVE A FULL 150 H.P. LYCOMING 0-320 ENGINE INSTALLED, THE SAME AS THE 172. GREAT FOR MOST INSTANCES, BUT OCCASIONALLY, (HIGH, HOT, SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF, FULL GROSS), A LITTLE EXTRA SQUIRT WOULD BE NICE. THIS AIRCRAFT HAD THE HIGH COMPRESSION PISTONS INSTALLED BY STC. SO IT NOW PRODUCES 160 H.P. WHICH IS BETTER! A 160 H.P. 140 IS A VIABLE CROSS-COUNTRY AIRPLANE (OVER 6 HOURS FUEL ON BOARD!) OR OF COURSE A PERFECT AIRPLANE TO GET YOUR LICENSE IN (ALWAYS BETTER YOUR OWN AIRPLANE THAN A VARIETY OF RATTY RENTALS) OR YOUR KIDS, OR SPOUSE! THIS IS A NICE LOOKING AIRPLANE OVERALL. THE RED ON THE COWLING AREA UPDATES THE OTHERWISE STANDARD PAINT JOB OF COURSE, WHEEL PANTS ON ALL 3 GEAR ADD A LITTLE SPEED, BUT MOSTLY THEY LOOK GREAT! AND THEY PROVE THAT THIS IS A PRIVATELY OWNED AIRPLANE, NOT A FLIGHT SCHOOL HACK, AS THEY ALWAYS REMOVE THE PANTS AND MAKE THEIR AIRPLANES UGLY. THIS AIRPLANE HAS A SLIGHTLY SAD STORY. TIED DOWN, MINDING IT’S OWN BUSINESS, A CESSNA TAXIED INTO IT’S RIGHT WING! BAD CESSNA! YOU CAN SEE THAT THE PROPELLOR CHOPPED INTO THE WING SKINS, OUTBOARD OF THE FUEL TANK, SO NO FIRE. IF YOU WERE GOING TO RUN ANOTHER AIRPLANE INTO YOUR AIRPLANE, YOU WOULD WANT THAT AIRPLANE TO BE RUNNING! (YOU DON’T EVER WANT ANOTHER AIRPLANE TO RUN INTO YOURS, I AM JUST MAKING A POINT). WHEN TUGS OR TRUCKS, ETC. RUN INTO THE WING OF A PLANE, THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THE MASS OF THE RIG AGAINST THE WING SKIN WILL DAMAGE THE AREA OF THE FUSELAGE WHERE THE WING ATTACHES. THE CESSNA THAT HIT THIS WING WAS RUNNING (DARN CESSNAS), SO IT DID CHOP UP THE WING SKINS, BUT DID NOT DAMAGE THE FUSELAGE AT THE WING ATTACH POINTS! SO WHAT WAS HURT WERE: THE OUTBOARD 1/3 RD OF THE RIGHT WING. THE RIGHT FIBERGLASS WINGTIP. THE RIGHT AILERON. AND THAT’S IT! ! THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THIS AIRPLANE AT ALL! THE 4 SEAT TAN INTERIOR IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE FULL COMPLEMENT OF FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION IS INSTALLED. NO RADIOS ARE INCLUDED, BUT THE TRAYS ARE INSTALLED AND INCLUDED FOR A KING DIGITAL NAV-COM, AUDIO PANEL WITH INTERCOM, MX-12 NAV-COM, AN APOLLO TRAY AND THE TRAY AND ENCODER FOR A KING TRANSPONDER. THE PANEL UNITS AND INDICATORS FOR ANY OF ALL OF THESE TYPE UNITS ARE READILY AVAILABLE, FROM US OR OTHERS, NOW OR IN THE FUTURE, OR USE THIS CHANCE TO GET WHAT YOU WANT WITHOUT PAYING FOR WHAT YOU DON’T! LAST ANNUALED 8/8/2019 SO THE ANNUAL WILL NOT EXPIRE UNTIL 8/31/2020! THIS WAS A FLYING, WORKING, LEGAL AND CERTIFIED AIRPLANE AND WILL BE AGAIN WITH THE RELACEMENT OF THE DAMAGED PARTS! THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLOR OR SPINNER! NO DAMAGE OF COURSE TO THE ENGINE, WHICH WAS NOT RUNNING. NO DAMAGE TO THE CABIN, ALTHOUGH 1 STICK COMM ANTENNA IS BROKEN NO DAMAGE TO THE DOOR, WINDSHIELDS, WINDOWS, COWLINGS, TAILCONE, VERTICAL FIN, OR RUDDER. NO DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, FIREWALL, EXHAUST SYSTEM, ETC. NO DAMAGE TO THIS AIRFRAME EXCEPT THE OUTBOARD WING, AILERON AND TIP. NOW THE AILERON AND TIP BOLT ON EASILY, BUT TO REPAIR THE WING, A JIG IS REQUIRED TO KEEP THE SKINS STRAIGHT. There are many repair places that do this, but not your average repair shop at the airport. REPLACING A WHOLE WING, HOWEVER, IS FAR MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD! YOUR LOCAL SHOP WILL PROBIBLY BE ABLE TO DO THAT WORK FOR YOU. SO INSTEAD OF TRYING TO HAVE THIS AIRPLANE FIXED ON SITE, WITH PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW AND DON’T KNOW IF YOU CAN TRUST, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT BOTH WINGS BE UNBOLTED (9/16THS BOLTS, NOTHING SPECIAL) AND THE AIRPLANE TRAILERED TO YOUR CHOICE OF REPAIR SHOP! NOW THE WINGS FROM THE 140, 150, 160 AND 180 CHEROKEE ALL FIT THIS AIRPLANE, SO THERE ARE PROBIBLY WINGS AVAILABLE TO BUY NEAR YOU, BUT CONDITION, PRICE, DELIVERY OR SHIPPING ALL MAKE THE FINAL NUMBER HARD TO GUAGE.
