Vehicle description
This is my 1965 GM PD4106 project. My intention was to convert into a motorcoach when I bought it several years ago. As we all know, sometimes life has different plans for us. It"s time for the bus to find a new home. I hate seeing it just sitting when it has so much potential.
It is a 1965 GM bus, originally a Trailways bus, then charter. The " Mamie B Special" . Now titled as a Motorhome. The interior has been gutted of seating and lavatory. 2/3 of the floor has been recovered with plywood and then carpeted. There are several things that I"ve done toward the goal of making it a MH but work on it stopped about 8 years ago. At this point a person could still do whatever they wished to do with minimal effort. There is a Flexsteel hide-a-bed couch, swivel rocker recliner, and various cabinets in the bus that came out of a 1 yr old wrecked Class A coach.
For the past 8 years since I moved to my current home it has been used for seasonal storage, which was a large contributing factor in work coming to a halt.
It has not been driven on the highway in 8 years! It is started and moved around the yard a couple times a year so the grass doesn"t completely die.
Here is a list of known issues: Rubber seals around a couple of windows has shrunk. The Rubber hinge on one compartment needs replaced There is a piece of trim missing down the curb side The bumper end on the driver side needs reattached One window caught a rock from the mower and is cracked. One marker light up top on the rear is missing the lens. The tires are at minimum 9 years old. Great tread, still hold air, but old The speedometer has never worked since I"ve owned it. I used a GPS to monitor speed
Here are some Good points: Bus has been started 2x since the starter was rebuilt Bus will have 2 new 31 series batteries installed upon sale With the consideration of old fuel, I will replace fuel filters and add some fresh fuel upon sale. The 8v71 Detroit engine fires right up, Spicer 4 speed shifts like you would expect. Once started, compressor airs up system as it should, all airbags inflate as they should. Brakes do work! There are still several places where OEM and repop parts are still available. (like the baggage door hinge)
It is basically a blank slate. Build it how you like it. Lots of people who do these conversions use the bus as a "tin tent" while they convert it, "stealing" ideas from others they meet while using it as such. You could have an adventure and drive it home as I did, or play it safe and have it trailered. Your choice.
If there are any specific pictures you would like to see or questions you would like answered please send me a message and ask. I"ll answer every question to the best of my ability.
I"ve set a modest reserve price, I feel that the bus is worth at least what my reserve is. I"m going to run the auction 1 time, and 1 time only. So if you are even remotely interested this is your chance.
In the event of a winning bid, a non-refundable deposit is required within 24 hours of auction end. Balance to be paid via cash or certified cashiers check within 10 days of auction end. If you are having the bus transported I will work with the buyer and shipper to the best of my ability, within reason, to make this a smooth transaction.
