Spectacular restoration - 22" travel trailer by Silver Streak of El Monte CA. - back to original condition - no modifications - all original hardware in place - restoration over a 3 year period by a specialist in Pasadena - purchased by our family right after the trailer was completed in September of 2009 Never used for camping - used as a static display in an classic car museum - everything immaculate – folks have suggested that it would make an exciting guest room for visiting friends and family, much cheaper than building similar quarters, and with no zoning issues. Silver Streak trailers competed with Airstream and were claimed to be superior in build quality, with a tighter radius on the corners permitting better interior headroom. Mr. Ashby, who has refurbished and sold over 110 Silver Streaks, it is his opinion “the Silver Streak is a far better trailer than the Airstream, based on overall construction and a substantially stronger frame. In addition, unlike the Airstream construction, the Silver Streak skin was built right on the trailer frames. All internal structures and appliances were then placed within the shell through the entry.” Further comments regarding Silver Streaks vs. Airstreams are shown below if you wish to read the narrative. We have over a 100 photos that we can email, but nothing beats a personal visit. Further Comments : In an Airstream site called Air Forums, members have debated the superiority of Silver Streaks over Airstreams and as one poster noted in that forum from Fort Worth Texas . .” is constructed on an absolutely super frame, not semi-moncocque like the A/S. All appliances (furnace, water heater, pump, etc.) are mounted on the sub-floor and easily accessed by doors or false panels from the interior. Same for the fresh water tank. The trailer is .032 double-wall with 2" insulation in walls and roof, the floor is 4" insulated and 4" dead-air space between skins. The subfloor is NOT a structural piece so you have no frame sag or separation problems as with A/S. My folks had their S/S for nearly 30-years, and beyond replacing appliances as they wore, or carpeting, the maintenance costs were minimal. Repairs were easily handled by more than one tech who simply wouldn"t work on an old Airstream due to the problems of accessing appliances, lines, etc. There isn"t anything you can"t access in only seconds if need be .”
