Vehicle description
1963 Kaiser M54 Water Truck
Beautiful restoration that is fully usable and in excellent condition. This Kaiser was commissioned to the USFS as a fire support vehicle and decommissioned in 2018 when new trucks were purchased. The truck has a 3000 gallon water tank with both push and pull motors. A full restoration has been executed, thought to be sometime in 2016-2017. There is no rust anywhere.
When the truck was in the yard in 2018, after being decommissioned, it was backed into by another truck which damaged the rear railing system and water pump on one of the motors (please see pics). Damage is very minimal but you will need to replace the water pump on the 9hp motor. The railing can be pulled, sanded and repainted. Note that there is a clearcoat in the paint to account for.
It has a multi-fuel 6 cyl Continental R6602 engine, a 602 cu in (9.9 L) overhead valve inline 6 cylinder gasoline engine developing 224 hp at 2800 rpm. The motor has been gone over and has no issues or concerns.
Hoses, reels and other equipment as shown are included.
The truck was used as a water source for the FD, as such, it is equipped with old school rotator red light over the cab. This with yellow flashers. Please be aware that it is illegal to operate a vehicle with red and blue lights on city streets in most states.
The truck also has a cab heater system, which is uncommon in many military models. It also has power steering, which is invaluable and also not a usual part of military builds.
New 11.00R20 Goodyear Tires were added last year and have less than 40 miles on them.
There are three independent axles with PTO take off available on the front and rear axle.
Everything works as it should, and the truck is rock solid to drive to a work site or across country (max speed 52-55mph). Needs nothing. Starts easily, drives well, tracks true. With that in mind, it is an older truck and things will need maintenance. It is sold as is, where is.
It is suitable for daily use as a water truck for construction or small mining operations. It could also easily be a museum peice. Keep in mind this beautiful beast is 56 years old but shows very well.
The truck is in Rapid City, South Dakota. Shipping can be arranged if needed at the buyers expense.
I have about 50 more pics of the truck that I can send to interested buyers. This is not a tire kicker, sorry. No test drives. Guaranteed to be as represented.
Payment to be made in full within 7 days of auction end. Please contact me to arrange payment and pick up. Deposit must be received within 24 hours. Questions? Please ask before bidding.
