Vehicle description

This 1963 Beach Mk4 has a long and illustrious history. It was the first Beach-branded sports racer built by Gene Beach, and it is the first of twenty Mk4 examples delivered from 1963 to 1970. The racer originally came with a 697cc BMW flat-twin engine and was later fitted with a Hillman Imp engine and transaxle. It was raced by a number of owners including Jim Downing. See http:/ www.virhistory.com/beach/3-005.htm for more photos and the car’s history. The previous owner acquired the car in 2009. He had new fiberglass bodywork and aeroscreen reproduced and fitted; fabrication performed on the chassis plus the cooling, braking, and suspension systems; and the adjustable suspension components were nickel-plated. Included in the sale is the Hewland Mk6 five-speed transaxle and a new Fuel Safe fuel cell. The rear portion of the chassis was rebuilt and new floor plan fitted. The chassis has been painted and the suspension installed with grade 8 fasteners and new rod ends. The adjustable suspension components were plated in nickel. Professional racecar prep shops (Twin Cam Sportscars in Sarasota, Florida as well as at Metcalf Racing near Dallas, Texas) performed the $26,870 for restoration work. I have copies of the invoices. The car has raced in SCCA H, G, and D classes, although no logbooks are available. The car is eligible to run in SVRA Group 5, HMSA Class D, SCCA Group 3, and in various SOVREN classes depending on the powertrain configuration. The open cockpit retains its original left-hand-drive layout which includes a fiberglass bucket seat, a gated shifter, a three-spoke steering wheel, and an instrument panel. The new fuel cell is in the right-hand side pod. The exterior features aluminum side panels as well as a four-point roll hoop that extends from the chassis through the cockpit and rear of the car. The car has a 88.5″ wheelbase, and 13″ Revolution wheels are mounted with 5.0″ x 22.0″ front and 5.25″ x 22.0″ rear tires. The braking system is composed of Girling master cylinders and calipers paired with Triumph and Lola rotors. All bearings have been replaced. I got the car two months ago at a BAT (Bring a Trailer) auction. Unfortunately, because of the after effects of my double knee replacement, it is not a good fit. So, I have decided to pass this project on to another. This Beach Mk4 project is offered in Williamsburg, VA with a Hillman Imp exhaust headers and a few miscellaneous parts, some restoration records, and a bill of sale.
