Vehicle description
I have accepted the fact I will never finish this project and it is time to pass it on to someone who can appreciate it and take it over. I am the third owner having owned it 18 years. Here is the story of it’s creation… In 1969 a man in Las Cruces, New Mexico retired after years as a metal worker. He bought a nearly new 1964 Airstream trailer and a brand new International pickup to pull it and he hit the road. His first trip out just miles from home the trailer came loose, he hadn"t hooked it right. He braked hard and the trailer smashed into the back end of the truck, crushing the front of the trailer and the bed of the truck. Well, he was not deterred, he put his God given talents to work and you see the results. The workmanship of joining the two into one nice unit is wonderful. {Note the drip edge he made on the trailer above the cab} The guy was meticulous. He traveled far over the next 10 years putting 93,000 miles on it before he gave it to his friend. The second owner had it almost 20 years but only put 10,000 miles on it keeping in a garage all the time. When I got it I drove it about 5,000 miles. It was very slow with a top speed of only 50 MPH. It only got 6 MPG. With single rear wheels it was a bit wobbly going down the road. 10 years ago I started pulling it apart with the plan to slide the camper off the old truck frame and slide it on a late model cut away van or cab and chassis truck like a modern Class C. It would be very, very simple to do and VERY COOL! The camper is in near perfect condition! Outside it has all original windows, trim, lights, vent covers, light covers and ZERO dents. It has always been in New Mexico, there is no rust anywhere on the frame, no rot anywhere on the rig. Zero leaks. There are NO DENTS on the camper. Inside is awesome! All original cabinets and wood work, all fixtures are original. All appliances work, the refrigerator is a late 70’s model. All utilities worked as they should when I parked it, plumbing, electric, gas service. If someone should want to put the 1969 International back together I have all the parts. The body panels are in great shape with no dents or rust. I do not have the engine as the block was cracked but do have the 4 speed manual tranny. All this goes with the sale. Obviously it would have to be trailered out of here but it rolls and steers so loading wouldn’t be a problem. I have loader to assist. Dream on it people… put it on a luxury van and have the ultimate highway cruiser or slide it on a 4x4 pickup for cool back country rig.
