For the last 10 years I have been a huge Airstream enthusiast. I have bought, sold, and worked on everything vintage from Steamline, Avion, Silver Steak, Boles Aero, and of-course Airstream trailers. This is by far the rarest I have encountered.
Up for Auction one 1960 33ft special. This Airstream was custom built and designed for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It spent its life either loaded onto train carts or pulled behind, being used for train engineer housing. Airstream built only a handful of these unique trailers.
With completely custom frame body and axles, Airstream fused two small Airstreams together to make these goliaths, made in 33ft, 35ft, 40ft, and 50ft.
Only a handful of these trailers survived either being wrecked or sold as scrap. Most that have survived are now in museums, with only a few of these left in public hands. This 33ft is only one of two known to exist. Verified to be a Southern Pacific Airstream by Samantha J Martin, Airstream"s Archivist, as well as through frame logo and VIN identification.
The last one of these sold at Meccum Denver Auction for $200,000.00 The Western Pacific was restored and updated by Timeless Traveler.
The trailer we have here ended its service to the railroad in Harrisburg, Oregon at the old train depot where its sat for years. This piece of history will need to be restored or updated. Brand new wheels and tires have been put on, extensive cleaning, interior removing of interior carpet and flooring, shell de-oxidizing, is being performed until sold.
I do not have the time, money, or tools to give this trailer what she needs. Lets find her a good home. This is a great investment opportunity for the true enthusiast.
