Vehicle description
1955 Willy"s M38A1 w/ original 4-134 F Head (4 cyl) engine. 3 speed manual transmission with manual 4 wheel drive. Converted to 12 volt by previous owner (alternator) but still have the 24 volt generator available. The Engine & Brakes are in good condition. This Jeep Runs, shifts, and stops as it should. The 4WD works well and manual locking hubs on the front wheels. The frame is solid and there is very little rust with the exception of the passenger side front floor pan and passenger door side panel (see pictures). Updates include a rebuilt Carter YS carburetor, rebuilt radiator, new front & rear upholstery. It has a full canvass winter top along w/ side curtains & doors. Also included is a full hardtop w/ doors but there is no hardware or manual for this top and it was never used w/ the Jeep. I have the title but it was not required to register the vehicle in my state (pre 1981).
What it needs: The wheels are 15" aftermarket rims and the tires are old and have dry rot. I have a separate set of 15" CJ rims that are included w/ the jeep (one is already on the jeep as a spare). The tires will need to be replaced soon. The gas gauge does not work properly and goes straight to Full every time the ignition is turned on. It could be a ground wire or the sending unit (but most likely the sending unit). As already mentioned there is some rot in the floor pan on the passenger side as well as on the door panel which can be seen in the pictures. These can be replaced w/ new panels but I never got around to it. The passenger side floor pan is still quite solid as it is supported by hat channels underneath and they are strong.
This Jeep is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks for looking.
