Vehicle description
1953 Airstream Flying Cloud. Serial Number 7395. Body is approximately 19 feet. About 23-1/2 feet hitch to bumper. Renovated to be practical, not restored to original condition. When this was built, there were few RV parks, and the trailer had to function on its own in every way. Parks and RV parks today have power and water. So we removed the propane range and oven, propane refrigerator, and the water tank (they are not available). This reduced the weight considerably. The axle and wheels were outdated split rims. We installed a new axle and wheels. Tires, including spare, are new. In place of the refrigerator, we installed an ice chest on a pull-out tray. A television is wall mounted above that. The original kitchen exhaust is working above the new hardwood counter. The kitchen faucet is cold only. There is a hose inlet for water and a hose connection to discharge grey water. There is a bucket type toilet stored in a cabinet. A single burner electric hot plate is provided. We installed a stainless steel splash guard left of the sink. There are a few other convenience additions, like grab rails at the doorway. The original had benches in the front. We replaced the water tank with shelves and provided new Italian MCM style chairs with provision to secure then to eye bolts during transport. There are movable can lights on the front side wall. We retained the original bed frames with drawers, but they now have thick, comfortable foam mattresses and reading lights. The floor cover is sheet vinyl. Electricity is provided via an RV electrical connection on the rear. There is a heavy duty power monitor protecting against bad power found in some RV parks and a variety of adapters for common electrical supply connections. A television antenna and mast are provided. The antenna cable deploys from a compartment in the rear and can plug into an RV park cable TV system. A new air conditioner rides at the back wall between the 2 beds and can be pulled out for use and seals with the rear compartment open and is easily pushed back inside to travel or when you are away. The rear compartment seal was replaced, and it closes snuggly, secured by the padlock hasp. There is a small secondary compartment inside the rear compartment for accessories. The heat vent for the propane heater has been sealed but was left in place outside for original appearance. There is an after-market heavy bumper/trailer hitch platform at the rear which we left in place, as it provides good protection for the obviously vulnerable aluminum. The “FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY” sign on the rear is an exact replica of the original. The tail lights are modern and, for safety, larger than original. The running lights are original or replica. The “porch light” was replaced by LED. Provided accessories include electrical cable, hoses for water and discharge, door step, hitch lock that blocks the hitch from being hooked on a ball by a thief, new spiral heavy safety cables, and new moon hub caps. The Sangean radio is included. There are ample electrical sockets provided for normal use. There are roller shades on the windows and a privacy curtain for the bedroom. Closets and kitchen cabinets are original. Electrical Romex wiring is accessible along baseboards, in closets, under the kitchen counter and under beds. The load center is located at the rear of the bedroom. The body was polished to a pleasing but not mirror finish. There was damage to the aluminum underside, and it was repaired with aluminum sheet. The original door had screen behind the outer door. We replaced that with Lexan, so there is still visibility without loss of heat or cool air. The door seals were replaced. As usual, there are minor shallow dents, scratches, etc. There is one more significant place on the lower right front. You can see it in the photo. I don’t think it’s really as bad as it looks in the photo. I suspect someone turned to sharply. That radio antenna in the photo has a cable to the interior but is mainly retained because it was original. The trailer is clean and ready to roll. There is no appearance of any water leakage ever. The original side vents for the range/oven are sealed. It is very easy to pull and very light, so no brakes are required. There is a sway control bar mounted on the tongue which requires a hitch with a second small ball, and that hitch is provided for a 2-inch receiver. The 12-volt connection is a standard modern type. Because of its light weight, The State of Texas only requires a "Bill of Sale”, not a title. It is currently registered. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more pictures. Thanks for looking.
