Vehicle description
Why is my Firebird on again? In a nutshell, a person hit the "Buy it Now" but never followed through with the entire payment. Sucks for me but that is the reason. As to myself, I am a (71) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my feedback that is at 100% with (1,303) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.
Just some quick history on the First Generation Pontiac Firebird (1967-1969) Pontiac introduced the Firebird February 23, 1967, to compete with the Chevrolet Camaro (introduced September 29, 1966) and the Ford Mustang (introduced April 1964). The Firebird was designed from the Camaro’s F-Body design and the GTO’s A-Body drivetrain with a different rear end, sub-frame , split-grill front end , six vertical louvers on the front of the rear quarter panels, and louver style tail lamps . The first generation Firebird could be easily distinguished from the Camaro with its four round headlamps, whereas the Camaro only had two. Improvements were also made in the engine placement, front suspension , and reinforced rear springs. Due to engineering problems that would ultimately delay introduction of the all-new 1970 Firebird beyond the usual fall debut, Pontiac continued production of 1969-model Firebirds into the early months of the 1970 model year — until the end of calendar year 1969 (the other 1970 Pontiac models had been introduced on September 18, 1969). In fact, by late spring of 1969, Pontiac had deleted all model-year references on Firebird literature and promotional materials, anticipating the extended production run of the then-current 1969 models. Here is what I was told about the history of my car by the previous owner. He stated: M y nephew’s uncle purchased the Firebird from the original owner around 1976. He owned the car until around 1986 when it was passed on to the nephew. The nephew decided to do some restoration on the Firebird but ended up putting the Firebird into storage for the next 35 years. The nephew called the previous owner, who was also an uncle, and asked if he wanted to purchase the Firebird as it was just sitting. That is when the previous owner came into possession of the Firebird around 2011. That would put the Firebird in the same family for around 45 years and making me believe that the mileage of 25,232 is original. Of course with no actual documentation, I am selling the Firebird as mileage exempt. So there you go. You now know what I know. I have tons of photos including ID photos and a video for serious people. Please look at this additional information prior to making an offer . Just ask and I will send you links to both. And now for my 1969 Firebird 350 that I am selling here today. After purchasing this Firebird I drove it for approximately 90 minutes at between 50 and 60 mph with absolutely no issues. I think that was a good test of its dependability. This Firebird is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is a wicked nice example of an original drivetrain ’69 model. Let’s face it, there are only a small number of these cars out there for sale and how many of those actually have their original drive train? Try to find another 1969 Pontiac Firebird 350 at this price and you will see what I mean. I know from previous experience that there is never too much information for the serious buyers. Exterior: The “code 69” Palladium Silver Paint was removed at some point when the Firebird was restored. It was replaced with a very nice white paint and black vinyl roof. The paint, trim and bright-work should be considered very good. I do believe some panels were replaced but can’t say which ones. The door handles and outside mirrors are driver quality. As to the driver’s side remote mirror, the adjusting mechanism has been removed. All glass is very good and appears original with the exception of the windshield. Hercules 195/70R14 tires, Keystone Raider 14” rims and caps are all very good. All exterior items work such as: · Head lights (High beam on passenger’s side is out.); · Tail lights; · Brake lights; · Blinkers (front and rear); · Wipers; · Horn. Interior: Blue bucket seat upholstery, door panels and rug are driver quality with no rips noted. Headliner is driver quality with no rips or tears noted. All gauges are functional as well as the AM radio. The heater fan is working but there are no heater hoses connected. (Not sure why. Heater core may have been leaking?) The overhead light is working. Seat belts are all there and functional. The dash has a new painted dash cap but I have not glue it down. I have two sets of keys and all locks are in working order.
Engine/Tranny: What can I say about the engine accept it’s pretty much all original. The only item I have noticed that has been replaced is the 2bbl carburetor. I do not have the original. No smoking, leaks or funny noises. There looks to be a new battery. As to the 3-speed automatic transmission, it shifts fine but does have the typical greasy look and could stand to be cleaned up.
Trunk Area; Clean with a spare tire, spare tire cover, trunk mat and jack assembly. Overall condition of the trunk should be considered driver quality.
Undercarriage; There are areas of rust and previous repair noted. There looks to be newer dual exhaust system. Brakes are in very good working order with a newer brake booster. See photos.
