Vehicle description
Vehicle Details I ordered this truck from a Red Wing Minnesota Dealer in December of 1977. Took delivery in April of 1978. The base price was $4250.00 but when the option list was complete, it ended up just over $8,000.00. If I remember correctly, the only two options not selected were the sun roof and the tool box on the right front lower box. It got the SE trim option with premium interior, volt and vacuum gauges, AC, Cruise control, Power Disc brakes, Tilt Steering wheel, AM/FM stereo 8 track radio, sliding rear window, 440 engine, 727 Load Flyte automatic transmission, Towing package with transmission cooler and 3.21 sure grip differential. It was my daily commuter vehicle until around 1999 and clocked over 500K miles during those 21 years. When I found out it was one of 74 D150 trucks built with the D code 440 engine, I decided to restore it and began buying up NOS parts before they all became extinct and un-obtainable. Not to mention (gold plated) like they are now. I still managed to squander over $25,000.00 getting it back to the condition it is now. I found an identical truck that was rust free and replaced the rusted body parts repainting everything to the factory colors. Drive train has all been rebuilt to factory specs. Over the years I added a Gear Vendor overdrive and replaced the 8 track radio with a CD/Cassette stereo from the 1990's. Other upgrades I have made include rear panel speakers, Mid 90's Dodge truck mirrors, aftermarket high back bench seat, 15" X 7" American Racing Aluminum wheels and a roll panel replacing the rear bumper. I finished the project in 2016 and have driven it around 3000 miles since then. No leaks and no rattles. I have a lot of pictures of the resto and just today, (8/2/2021) took a 4 minute video with my wife's smart phone. Everything on this truck works as it should including the AC and cruise control. With 43K miles on the odometer, (the other 500K don't show up) It drives just as nice as new because it is like new with everything either new or restored to new. No expenses spared so this truck is no cheapo bondo bucket. My career has been winding down and the wife wants me to thin the herd some so here it is. The collector market is starting to recognize the value of these trucks so I expect them to appreciate accordingly. Especially now that I recently saw a NOS grille going for $2000.00. I paid $310.00 from the dealer back 20 years ago for the one on this truck. Thanks for looking.
