Vehicle description

*The first international winner was a deadbeat, the last auction Ebay cancelled at the last minute dude to a fraudulent bidder. All original 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL, 85,350 verified miles. Diamond Blue metallic on Blue leather. All service records from new, all books; hang-tags;cassettes;original sticker price with all assorted documents. No rust / All original paint and never been involved in an accident.
This 560SL was purchased new in June 1988 from Intercontinental Motors in North Houston, Texas. It moved with the original owner from Texas, to Southern California and then onto Washington State before returning to Houston. She had it parked in the garage for the better part of a decade before she finally decided to sell it. I purchased it from her in the summer of 2017. The car went through a mechanical refreshing with my indy Mercedes shop here in Houston. The $8,471 service included . The entire fuel system was gone through New Fuel distributor/ Injectors/ Idle Control valve/ both fuel pumps New front suspension and shocks all around. Control arm bushings/ball joints. Valve cover gaskets Air conditioning service New AC control /Push button unit, new hoses and charge. New front and rear rotors and pads with fluid flush. Shifter bushings Various other hoses and mini jobs to get the car roadworthy after 10 years. After the service the car went back into storage where it has sat most of 2020.
Overall impressions: I was originally impressed with the maintenance file, this car had its own bank account. The car was serviced regularly until it went unused for over 10 years. I have tens of thousands of dollars worth of receipts including the original window sticker showing $63,410. It has all original paint, and not a speck of rust anywhere. It was obviously kept inside. The original paintwork has 2 scratches worth noting, the passenger front fender as well as the passenger rear quarter panel. There is also a small blemish on the hood. Each panel has matching vin tags in tact. The blue dash cover does have hairline cracks and the console wood shows 2 hairline cracks in the veneer. The original leather seats are in excellent condition and are soft without any significant wear or ageing. The carpets are immaculate and show as new without fade. The original owner told me she never took the hard top off after she purchased the car. The interior still smells like leather, and the car has never been smoked in. The original soft-top is in good shape, but the plastic is aged. There is a small tear in the middle of the top from where I improperly put it into the storage compartment. The car has near new Michelin tires and the original tool-kit and jack/ spare tire are in the trunk.
Mechanical: My mechanic chased a high idle and fuel delivery issue when getting the car back on the road. It starts and runs well, the engine has plenty of power and the transmission shifts as expected. Since sitting for the past year, the front seal in the transmission has started to leak. The steering coupler was also still on the list to replace. It does not affect the steering in any way, but sometimes over un-even road surfaces you hear a vibration noise through the steering column. Those are the two outstanding mechanical items the car needs. The rest of the systems are working as designed. The original Becker radio and electric antenna/ electric windows/ climate control system (A/C and heat)/ vacuum locks (doors/trunk/fuel door)/ cruise control/ all exterior and interior lights work correctly/ vanity mirror lights/ electric mirror. As I have driven the car probably 500 miles since the service. It is time to let the next person enjoy and use this car. It is located in North Houston Texas and I am available anytime to discuss or arrange a viewing or pre-purchase inspection. I also have additional photos and videos I am happy to share.
