Vehicle description
Item was previously listed, sold, and buyer did not respond to contact.
Mazda MX-5 Miata manual 5 speed, low mileage for the age with aftermarket fiberglass hardtop, unpainted. Kept out of the Texas sun while under my ownership.
Quick back story : I moved across the country for work and it doesn"t make sense to take my project car with me. I took care of it very well and fixed a lot of issues in the hopes I could take it to the track one day. I have used this car intermittently as my daily driver to get to work so it is very much alive and strong. After the hardtop I was going to do transmission, clutch, and roll bar work to get fully prepared for the track. Looking to sell quickly and it is priced aggressively, so, if you have any questions or want to check out the car in person before purchase, please contact me. Thanks!
Good stuff: All of the replacements above were done by myself. Usually people think that is a bad thing, but, I am an engineer by trade and I am extremely meticulous and careful when it comes to things that I work on and own especially as a project car that I had much bigger plans for. This is a terrific jumping off point for anyone who wants to get going with a project car. Relatively low mileage, extremely low for the age.
Many updates like the radiator, hardtop, and battery are an improvement over the stock stuff. I"ve done a majority of the more difficult maintenance work that needed to be done (namely timing belt, water pump, and injectors) to keep the car running for another 60k miles with no problems. Brand new tires and fresh alignment within the last 6 months with hardly any miles put on it. Aftermarket hard top is unfinished! I"ve done one whole set of sand, body fill, and prime. There are a couple more spots that bodyfiller is needed before base coat of color. Otherwise, the top is good. AC and radio both work, no issues there. I really hope that my work sets up the next owner for a great ride and a great base to start from.
Bad stuff : Interior seats are not doing great, not horrible, but they are prime for replacing. No floor mats. Some small dents on fenders and doors. Previous owner tried to repaint the rear left fender and didn"t sand the part, thus it has cracked paint all over the fender and gas cap cover. Stock on most everything including suspension and wheels. Removed the convertible top and frame because it got ripped, was old, and. . weight savings. Some minor rust on the body. Motor mounts as typical for this car still need to be replaced. Transmission does have some synchro issues for first gear unless the car is stopped, honestly has never been an issue for me really.
Many parts replaced to make the car run strong and last for a long time, including: Timing belt Timing belt tensioner and guide pulley Water pump Accessory and water pump belts Camshaft seals and front crankshaft seal Valve cover gasket Radiator hoses Aftermarket Mishimoto radiator + new fans Fuel filter All fuel injectors replaced with OEM matched injectors All spark plugs replaced with iridium type
Convertible top and frame removed NEW Dunlop Direzza tires (only 50 miles on them) Working AC and radio! Aftermarket AGM battery with hold down mount Aftermarket hardtop All fluids replaced when purchased at 51000 miles (oil, trans, brake, and coolant). Has been kept up with and replaced as necessary during ownership with premium fluids. Plus lots of other parts to come with the car for further improvements or replacements
