Vehicle description
Mazda CX-5 . This car has an electrical problem which is why it is being sold for so little. KBB dealer trade-in is $5118, and private party price is $6938. It is 100% complete and driveable, with the following exception. The car was jump-started by a towing company, after which several warning lights illuminated. The local Mazda dealer diagnosed this as a blown fuse, and the car was returned to us. All warning lights were off, and fault codes were cleared. After driving the car 200 miles, the dashboard lit up again and the car had to be towed back to the dealer. The problem has continued to plague the car and two experienced dealers/mechanics have not been able to solve the problem. The fuse that blows is SRS-1, which controls the modules for the SRS, ABS, PS, and a few other items. The fuse is 7.5A. When you replace the fuse, everything goes back to normal operation. However, when the fuse blows, the power steering stops working, and it becomes difficult to drive. I can"t risk this with my daughter, or anyone else in the family. This is a great deal if a) you like the CX-5, and it"s a hell of a car, b) you understand the preceding warnings and accept that the power steering may turn off at an inopportune time, and c) you want to tear into the car and try to fix the problem or sell the car for parts (and there are a ton of excellent parts). The problem is mostly likely a chafed wiring harness between the fuse block and the accessory modules. We have been unable to "catch" the current spike that causes the fuse to blow. It is highly intermittent. I drove the car from LA to the Bay Area with no problems in November, when I gave it to a great Mazda mechanic who tried to find the short. This could also be caused by a defective module, but I cannot be sure.Call me if you"re interested. I have receipts from the places that tried to fix the car, and I can create a history of what we"ve tried to do. I don"t want to put anyone at risk so I want to make sure that any prospective buyer fully understands the condition of the car. Title is clean, car is clean, tank is full. I"ll deliver to within 100 miles of Santa Cruz, CA. YOu can arrange for shipping if farther away.
