* THIS CAR IS BEING SOLD BY ME AS “PARTS” BECAUSE OF ITS QUESTIONABLE HISTORY. I MAKE NO CLAIM TO THE VALIDITY OF ITS VIN NUMBER OR IT ACTUALLY BEING A MACH 1.* *
THAT SAID, THIS COULD REPRESENT AN EXCEPTIONAL BARGAIN FOR A BUYER WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS LOOKING AT. THIS COULD BE A GREAT PICKUP FOR SOMEONE WHO BUILDS MUSTANG MACH 1’S AND NEEDS PARTS AND KNOWS HOW TO UTILIZE THIS VEHICLE-
So here is the story: I purchased this car on Ebay in 2013 from a classic car dealer in Florida. It was sold to me as an untouched original 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in excellent condition, numbers matching Q-code Cleveland “Cobra Jet” 351-4V engine, and it’s was said the car ran perfectly, no issues. I paid just under $15,000 for the car and I felt like I got a great deal. I had the car shipped out to me and the car had no brakes, ran pretty rough, and had some rust coming through the paint in a couple spots on the car. So I put the car in my garage along with other project vehicles (I had 11-12 cars at the time) figuring I’d get to it at a later date with the hopes of doing a full restoration to the car.
Over time my financial/life situation changed and I had to get rid of most of my small car collection because I didn’t have the space, time, or money to deal with them anymore. I listed the car on Ebay with the same description used when I purchased the car and found out pretty quickly from members of the Ebay community that there was a difference in the car I had and the description that had used. This raised some red flags for me and I ran a Marti report on the car (which I have included in the pics). There are a couple glaring discrepancies:
The seats/interior are black and not “ginger” as stated in the Marti report The car that I have does not have the Sport Deck rear seat.
I am not real knowledgable about these Ford Mustangs/Mach1 cars but a couple Ebay guys who had vast experience with them said that the car may have been “re-bodied”, which apparently means taking the original VIN and possibly other identifiers off of a wrecked or rusted car and swapping it onto another shell. Now I’m exactly sure what the advantage would be to take one Vin off of a Mach 1 and put it on another one but given this clouded history of this vehicle, I cannot in good conscience sell this as an original Mach 1.
I think that this car is possibly (or maybe even likely) a Frankenstein of two Mustangs, two Mach 1’s or a Mach 1 and a Mustang. At this point, I am selling the car as a collection of parts that drives, brakes, and looks like a Mach 1.
So here is what I know to be true:
I have a clean (non salvage) signed over Florida title and bill of sale from the original seller. I never registered the car in California. I will provide a bill of sale from me along with anything else requested in order to facilitate an easy transfer. As I have never tried to register the car, I cannot vouch for the validity of the title, but it looks like a legitimate title.
I had the engine gone through/tuned and the brakes redone a few years ago by one of the top classic car shops in the area. I put a couple grand into the car and I have driven the car very little since then. The car starts starts right up and runs pretty good making it a fun driver in its present condition.
The interior is in pretty good shape with no rips/tears or heavily worn out areas. There are a couple areas in the interior that would need to be addressed. Front passenger seat is missing two bolts that hold it in place so it rocks quite a bit/or lays flat but it appears to be an easy fix. Upholstery near rear window is untucked (no ripped) and needs some type of clip or something to hold it down.
Exterior: this car is a 48 year old car so it is by no means perfect. The original paint is bubbled or peeled off in multiple areas (see pictures as I tried to show those areas as best I could). There are areas of rust showing through paint on lower side panels (see close up pics). There is a bit of surface rust on the chrome rims but nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t remove.
want to be clear to the buyer of this car, the car runs and the brakes work but it is not a daily driver type car at this point. At this point I would classify it as a weekend local driving type of car that looks pretty good at a distance, but overall would have gone through to get it mechanically sound. Visually, the body has some rust areas as I described above and I’d assume that the condition of the underside of the car has some rust issues as well although I’ve never been underneath it to get a proper look.
TO BE VERY CLEAR, I AM SELLING THIS CAR AS “PARTS” AND NOT A MACH 1, A FORD MUSTANG OR ANYTHING ELSE. THAT SAID, THIS COULD REPRESENT AN AMAZING DEAL FOR A KNOWLEDGABLE BUYER WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING AT.
PLEASE ASK WHOEVER YOU NEED TO ASK BEFORE BIDDING. I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ANY EXCUSES AFTER THE AUCTION IS OVER. AUCTIONS ARE NOT A GAME AND ARE NOT CHEAP. PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MY TIME IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS AVAILABLE BEFORE YOU BID.
