Vehicle description
1997 Jaguar XK8. Condition is "Used". I bought this on Ebay back in the summer. I just love this car! It"s beautiful. But alas, I have had to sink several thousand into my trucks with some more to come over the next few months. Add to that the business that I work in is on a downswing right now due to Covid and I cannot justify keeping a toy. My wife is begging me to keep it as she knows how much I love it, but it stinks being an older middle aged adult- you prioritize ! Anyway, let me tell you about it. The gentleman I bought it from in Georgia had done some good things to the car in the last year or so before I bought it. I had extensive conversations with him before I bought it because these cars can be touchy to say the least. He had replaced the water pump and all the hoses tht go with it, he did a full transmission service including a new torque converter, the guides and tensioners and chain had been changed. He gave photos of that work with the timing covers off. It has a newer battery and the ECM had been rebuilt. The motor serial number shows it to be a 2002 motor, I believe. He didn"t replace the motor, it had been done before he purchased it. His reasoning was that the early motors had Nikasil liners and the bores wore very fast. Now I don"t have the paper work for the work he did, but I did see the chain work done in pictures and the other stuff is verifiable by looking at it for the most part. The car runs beautifully. The motor is smooth and I did, as he had done, ran it for a half hour sitting on my driveway and the temperature never rose above the center mark where it is supposed to be. I have done it several times and it is perfect everytime. Since I was waiting until 2022 to register it as an antique in PA, I don"t have insurance on it so I have only driven my neighborhood a couple times in it. It runs fine and shifts fine, but i have never had it at highway speeds. But the previous guy used it nearly everyday up until a couple months before I bought it. He just bought a newer one. The car was originally black, and the previous owner had it painted Jaguar Carnival Red. i like originality but it"s a nice deep red and the contrast between the body and door jambs is minimal. The paint job was a 2 stage base-clear, but not a higher end job and the clear had heavy orange peel, which kept the shine down. I have spent the past several months wet sanding and cutting the clear and you can see the pic of the hood that it has come out nicely. I still have one quarter panel to do and hopefully can do that before the buyer picks it up. It isn"t a show car but extremely presentable. The nose has a lot of stone chips which I was going to fill individually and blend in. You"ll find some on other parts of the car but they are mostly smaller and not as noticeable. The interior is pretty good with the driver"s seat being the worst. The wood on the dash is overall pretty good with just a bit of cracking. I have a replacement console armrest in a slightly different tan, But I will include dye which matches the interior(coffee) and you can dye the console armrest and clean up the steering wheel too. I forgot to post a pic of the passenger front seat but it is in nice condition, almost as good as the back seat. No rust and extremely straight body. The a/c system is full, but the compressor makes a terrible racket when you turn it on, which the previous guy told me. The radio and cd changer in the trunk work fine, but the power antenna goes up fine, but needs help to fully go back in. The windows and mirrors work but I think he told me that there might be a small light out on one area of the dash. I planeed to drive one spring/summer season on the tires that are on it. they have maybe 25% tread left but I have driven on worse and they didn"t feel too bad. But again, I have not had it over 40mph. The previous guy mentioned that the front struts might need changing soon, but they don"t rebound when push on the car and it seemed to track straight. okay, why so much info? because most likely you will be buying sight unseen and it"s a nearly quarter century old Jaguar. I want full disclosure. To be honest, I was going to put an antique tag on it when it became of age, get antique insurance and just start driving it. It feels fine to me. It feels solid to me. If you are interested and are in the philly area, come and look at it. You can"t drive it but you can hear it and hear it go into gear and see no leaks or funny smoke. I run it in my garage all the time and there is not a spot on the floor. And I know these are rare, and I had one before and kicked myself when I sold it. And I will kick myself again! It stinks being responsible! Ask me questions and I will be as honest as can be. I paid a lot more than my starting price and if you are the high bid at 2100.00, then you"ll get a good deal. thanks for looking. By the way, the odometer is 112,286 I believe. My title says 112,893, which is what the clerk heard when I transferred the title. And when I bought it, the Carfax showed like 165000 miles, but the previous guy believed that it was in kilometers, as it came out of Canada originally. But to his knowledge, the cluster was never changed and it reads 112 thousand and change. Full disclosure.
