For sale is very original and LOW MILE 1973 Trans Am. Currently 41K ACTUAL miles with a known history going back to 1979.
History/Ownership.
Sold new in AZ and Purchased in 1979 from 1st owner by a close family friend. At the time, the car had 27K miles and was located in Phoenix AZ. I am able to provide a millage disclosure document showing 27K miles at time of purchase. The car was driven by my friend for a few years and taken out of daily duty around 1983 (in Phoenix). I believe it had 36K miles at that time it was put away. In the mid 2000"s my friend moved to Tampa FL and the car came with him. He sold the car to me with 41K miles so you can see it was not used much throughout the years. The title was stranfered from AZ to FL and shows the same owner name as the millage disclosure going back to when it was purchased in AZ (1979). The history is known and the miles are ACTUAL.
The Car.
Buccaneer Red 1973 Trans Am. Matching numbers. Very original and never molested. All equipment under the hood is as it should be. All the EGR stuff is still there with vacuum hoses routed correctly. I believe the only alterations are the alternator which was upgraded to 100 amp early on, and a HEI distributor. The shaker is original and has been converted to functional not with aftermarket kits but as the factory did it through a temperature switch in the driver head and kickdown switch on the gas pedal. Interior is original minus the carpet. Seats have not been recovered, they are the OEM seat covers with original foam and still feel great. No cracks in the dash. As one would expect the interior is as it should be with 41K miles. Doors open/close fantastic and do not sag.
The Options.
Deluxe interior Custom trim group Air Conditioning - Never touched/converted. Compressor kicks on if bypassed but does not blow cold at this time. Power Steering Power Brakes Power windows - Work excellent Power door locks - Work Excellent AM/FM - Works great Tilt wheel.
Condition.
At the time the car was taken out of daily duty, the original paint was already beginning to show its age. Fast forward another 3 decades and it did not get any better obviously. When I purchased the car, I had the entire thing stripped to bare metal and painted the right way. All glass removed, panels removed. It was sprayed base clear and wet sanded to perfection. One would be hard pressed to find any orange peel on this car. The paint work was $13k and there was ZERO rust to deal with. The paint on the car is gorgeous and does not have any dings, scratches, swirls or orange peel. All the weatherstripping was replaced at the time it was painted obviously with quality items that actually allow the doors to close as they should. Body panel alignment is as nice as they were in 73 if not better. Underside is original to 73 and shows as it should for a car that spent most of its life in AZ and FL. Very clean, no rust. It is not a restored car, so please dont expect a show queen with every nut/bolt replaced as this is not it. All lights and indicators in/out work. Reverse lights work, glove box light works, trunk light works etc. This car was not hacked by 10 different owners. Under the hood it has not been restored. Clean enough I think with all components where they should be but not painted up to show quality. Wheels are original to the car as are the trim rings. All lenses and bezels/grilles are very nice. The rear bumper is original and shows just a bit of age. You have to look close. Mechanical/Maintenance. Lets start with the brakes. It sat for a LONG time so everything was replaced minus the booster and master cylinder. All rubber lines, calipers, rotors, drums etc. Brakes are now 100% functional and reliable. All the fluids were changed including the differential. Bushings on the sway bar links were changed as the originals were dry and basically falling apart. I was hoping to save the original exhaust that was on the car but that proved futile as the years had done the damage so the exhaust was replaced with a OEM style system. The original tips were saved and are on the car. The car runs and drives fantastic. Starts up great on choke, runs great off choke just as it should. Shifts up/down excellent with the kickdown 100% operational. The shaker scoop also flips open if you get into it. One would think by 73 these cars were no longer fast but I would not agree. This car will smoke the tires all through 2nd gear if you ask it to. Tuned perfectly with no bogs or hesitations (Yes the qjet was rebuilt after years of storage). No ticks, knocks or smoke. Does it leak a little here and there? Of course. . any original will. Is it bad? not really. The suspension and steering is tight, drives straight down the road with no vibrations. If I have any complaints it would be the rear leaf spring bushings that just dont want to be quiet after years of sitting in one spot. They are not dry and not loose. But they do squeek a bit. Tires look to have 100% tread but are dated 2013. They do not have any dry cracking between the threads.
Conclusion.
Not many 73 Trans Ams out in the world, and surely not many original low mile cars optioned as this one is. Add a $13k paint job and you have a car that is not so easy to find. Those of us in the hobby understand what a low mile original car is so I wont go into that here. It has been in the hands of pontiac enthusiasts since 1979. This is not a dealer flip car with a painted exhaust and 10lbs of armor all. It truly is a low mile original car that sat quietly for MANY years and just recently put back on the road. It does not rattle, it does not vibrate. Good oil pressure and runs cool. I had it up to 80mph and all was fine.src="https:/ hosting.photobucket.com/images/i/im4darush1/IMG_2920.JPG">
