EXPERIMENTAL VIN NUMBER 12,xxx miles driven by Gm team GM heritage museum car Corvette museum car In 1990 General Motors wanted to pursue the fastest and most sophisticated production sports car in the world with the ZR1. This is one of just a few surviving units from those 25 cars delivered to the Engineering Department in Bowling Greene for an active suspension project developed in collaboration with Lotus. Incorporating technology from the Formula 1 Lotus team, GM allocated $28 Million for the research and development of an intelligent digital/hydraulic active suspension management that would adapt to road conditions, lateral handling and corner balancing through a Delco computer and the most sophisticated suspension system ever installed in a car to date. This state-of-the-art technology was ahead 10 years and was meant to become viable mainstream just only in the early 2000’s. Back then meant that the options package would translate into a price increase of $150K per car to Chevy customers. There were 25 Active prototypes Corvettes but unknown how many were ZR1"s, 23 cars we destroyed and this could be the only surviving ZR1 this car participated in numerous tests around the world including Germany and at Daytona where they averaged 175MPH ! Our ZR1 is one of those incredible prototypes, that paved the technology road into the future of the Corvette. It is identified with and experimental chassis number and all the fully functional prototype equipment including the active self leveling suspension 3000-psi hydraulic system, Delco computer and sophisticated technology This important piece of automotive history is available for sale and will be delivered with an original copy of the GM assignation order and on a bill of sale.
