Vehicle description
1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible. I found this vehicle a year ago with the intent to restore it as a tribute to the Rain Man Buick. I really like the car but have purchased a new home that does not have room for all my cars, so I will be thinning a few out. Per the previous owner, be was the second owner since 1980. It was always kept in a warehouse in Long Island and used for local shows and occasional pleasure use only. He lost his warehouse and parked it outside at his residence covered for a few months before I purchased it. I searched for years but found this year and model is very hard to find unrestored in this condition. It starts, runs very quiet and smooth, drives very nice, no rattles, shifts and brakes fine. Doors close solid and all gauge’s work. The top goes up and down and even the power windows work except the rear two are touchy. I believe it may be an electrical contact. It is all original except for the paint (repainted in the late 70’s, not a great job). The transmission was rebuilt in the early 80’s. The pictures show no rust repair is needed. The tires are dated coded 1980 and the spare that is currently on the vehicle is believed to be original. Thus, I only drove it a few times at no more than 25mph. Also included is extra hubcaps, light bezels, car cover and service manual along with the original jack. It does have a leaky transmission rear main seal. (pictured). The paint is coming off the right front fender (poor paint job) the rust you see is only surface rust. In my opinion this is a prime candidate for new tires and paint, a good service and then just enjoy it. I believe it is too nice to take it apart for full restoration. I have many more photos of the undercarriage available is needed.
