1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle
Background I have been having fun working on well over 100 collector cars since 1965 . Now at age 70, with two aircraft hangers full of cars I need to thin them out. This is a California car I bought from another collector some years back It has been in my hanger for years along with many other cars . Besides an initial inspection and buying new tires for it it has been just in storage I will describe all I know about its good points, known and suspected defects and possible corrections I just trailered it home to take pictures to sell
These along with Model T And Model A Fords I collect are FUN for a beginner or experienced restorer to work on BECAUSE parts are cheap and readily available. Ask me about a two years search for a 1955 Cadillac fuel pump! Car is registered in Vermont comes with good Vermont registration and license plate good until Spring of 2022 you can use. Vermont does not issue car titles for cars over 25 years old. Check with your States license title division on getting a title in your state with a Vermont registration. Car is stored at my airport in Elkhart Indiana I put down on EBAY clean under title as it is not salvage or flood etc. Comes with the registration which I sign over to you. along with a bill of sale to use to get your title in your state
As with all my cars FULL refund under these conditions Please either you inspect or hire someone to inspect the car prior to shipment from my possession. If defect found I did not see, either I will reduce the price to be fair and send a refund or you can cancel the deal if defect found prior to shipment Inspection and refund good for 20 days after purchase so I can relist it if buyer rejects it (this has never happened in 40 years) . I have been selling classic cars on ebay since 1999 and want to keep my reputation so I want buyer to be satisfied
These cars are going between 4000 and 8000 or more running and restored. This may be a good candidate to both have some fun with and turn a profit
I have 4 new tires that go with the car One tire the new painted rear wheel has been replaced. I will put other 3 in front trunk and passanger compartment . On my cars I pull the wheels, clean them, paint or epoxy the inside to prevent bead tire leaks This is the pictured brown wheel
Good points California car so car is basically sound. Floor pans under rear seat not rusted through for example
Years ago I sanded down maybe 6 rust bubbles then primed and covered in tape ( pictured)
Running boards are rusted and need replaced
Car will not start ( will not electrically turn over. ) From experience, this is caused by one of two things on electrical wiring to starter solenoid either the ignition switch at the base of the ignition key or ONLY on the 1974 models the seat belt interlock. I have a new ignition switch and key along with the video on the very simple repair jumping two terminals on the ignition lock to bypass the seat belt interlock. Email me and I will send the video before you bid. Replacing bottom of ignition switch also easy I can send buyer video
I would check and eliminate LOTS of extra wiring someone has added for stereos etc.
Glass is good except for large star crack in front windshield Windshield quoted here between 270 and 330 installed.
Seats are good
Plastic on sides of seats for adjustment are missing radio is missing
front dash cover 3 splits narrow down center rest is good
rear bumper shock absorbers are good but bumper itself is loose and needs tightened to shock absorbers
passenger door and frame seems fine but door is stiff to close closes nice tight and firm do not know why it is stiff ( oil hinges? Hinges are solid)
When I look at the wiring under the rear seat connecting the battery, I would redo it to simplify Positive battery to starter solenoid ( appears newer replacement) Seems to be way too many prior additions and corrections Some loose unconnected add on wiring
front hood center chrome strip is good but missing fastener near the front bumper
plastic on front turn signal are intact but typical glaze spider web
driver side missing rear horizontal trim piece
There may be other defects. I try to describe all I see. Ask me for any specific pictures or video and I will email them to you

Note when buying these classic Beetles consider sticking with the manual transmission I have found that it is becomeing VERY difficult to repair their automatic and auto stick shifts
MILEAGE NOTE I put down what the odometer reads I do not know if speedometer works ( they usually do) Lets assume add 100000 miles to reading What is strange is it is a 1974 car last plated in 1979 so who knows? I usually look at seats and gas clutch pedal for wear on high mileage cars. They seem very little wear so again lets assume the worst on high mileage and hope for the best
