Vehicle description

This particular El Camino has been modified significantly from stock form. Long gone is the anemic smog era 5.0 liter engine, overdrive transmission, and economic rear gearing. Now in the engine bay sits a 4 bolt main 350 cubic inch engine, rebuilt to 10 to 1 compression and sporting an Edelbrock performer intake and new 650 cfm Thunder ASV carburetor. This combo breathes through dual two and half inch dual exhaust passing through a pair of Flowmasters. It has a camshaft with a wide lobe separation - meaning it runs with a very smooth idle and still has all the high performance characteristics. This is a stout, fast little motor.
This car has a big aluminum radiator handling the cooling duties, but otherwise this motor and install are on the mild side - you have a super reliable package here - great for cruising, quarter mile passes and for hauling the occasional light load. Shifting this Elco is a hurst 4 speed manual transmission. Again, not the stock piece here, an upgraded close ratio 4 speed mated to 3:41 rear posi traction rear in a corporate 10 bolt carrier. The shifts are light and positive, the shifter transmitting a very bolt action like effect as it goes from gear to gear.
This car is from the mid eighties, one of the great features of these newer classics is that these newer cars already have some upgrades that make them a touch more civilized to rip around town or road trip. Things like disk brakes up front. This rig has every creature comfort - AC, power windows, power steering, power brakes, electric windows, power door locks. The interior has been hot rodded too - in place of the stock velour - we have an early 2000s Pontiac Trans Am leather interior with 4 way seats (manual adjustments). Including the center console - pretty slick - no cutting or heavy mods - lines up clean and matches the interior.
The external modifications are limited to a cowl induction hood - a fiberglass reproduction and the American Racing rims wrapped in BF Goodrich tires with loads of tread life. The rest of the exterior is stock. No adornments, just all business. The paint is perfect - with only one tiny chip in the tailgate about ⅛ inch in diameter. The underside of this car is as clean as the topsides and there is zero rust anywhere on this car. The interior os in fantastic shap as well - but has some piece that could be refreshed, like the door panels and dashpad. They are the only things on the car that are "driver" quality - the rest is absolutely mint.
Newer muscle car options like this 1985 El Camino are a great way to obtain a classic that you can drive and enjoy that should appreciate enough in value to keep up with your upgrades but not so precious to keep in a glass box awaiting its next show.
Great car - would drive this coast to coast without the slightest hesitation. Selling to make room in my collection. I do not need help selling, thanks.
