I rescued this BMW from a garage in Vermont. The previous owner owned it since 2001 but about six years ago he ran over something and damaged the oil pan. It then lost all of the oil as well. Then the car sat in his garage for the next six years or so until I recently bought it.
I do not know how long the engine was ran after the oil drained out, or if it was shut off immediately. I installed a new oil pan and oil and it started right up. When I took the old pan off there was some bearing material in the bottom of it. These M42"s are also known to have a defective thrust bearing. Given those 2 issues, I cannot guarantee the engine is okay. It runs perfectly fine as it is. You could either rebuild this engine, or install an S5x as is commonly done.
The car has little to no rust and the paint is 95% original. All the vin tags are there and I don"t see any signs of prior body or paint work. I painted and installed a new front lip spoiler. I painted the bottoms of both front fenders because the paint was worn off (there was no rust). I painted around the license plate lights because the passenger side light had some rust around it. I didn"t repair the rust. And I installed new LED license plate lights. I also re-painted the bottom of the car black as it was originally. There is a small quarter-size rust spot under the battery tray that I left untouched other than repainting it black.
It is all original except it has a supersprint exhaust, lowering springs, and an after-market radio. The tires are the correct 195/65R14 size, they all match, and they all have excellent tread. They are older but the car sat indoors, so there is no dry rot.
I"ve owned approximately 100 BMW E30"s and this is the cleanest one I have ever seen. Next to the E30 M3, this is the fastest appreciating E30. A 318is the same as this one, but a little bit nicer, sold for $25k on BaT recently.
Please call me at 518.369.7373 any day between noon and 9 PM EST if you would like to talk about the car. Please leave a voicemail if I don"t answer and I will call you right back. I get so many scam calls I tend not to answer numbers I don"t recognize.
