Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is excited to present this 1977 Excalibur Phaeton Series III marketed on consignment with our Arizona showroom, located in North Phoenix. Around 3,500 Excaliburs were built in Milwaukee, WI that used engines and transmissions from GM and were styled after the Mercedes-Benz SSK, a 1920’s Roadster designed by Ferdinand Porsche. When you set your eyes on the Neo-Classical body, it’s hard to know where to look. This Beige Excalibur has two spare tire holders, side exiting exhaust headers, a canvas roof, rear luggage holder and a front end that is very Mercedes-reminiscent with horns, chrome grille and a hood ornament. These cars are designed to turn heads like a Rolls Royce but could be bought for the same as a down payment on the former! It’s safe to say the 454 CID V8 “big block” engine is a surprising thing to see under the hood of this Excalibur Phaeton considering the square footage but it fits in there! Estimated output is around 215hp/350lb ft of torque for the 1977 model according to statistics sourced online. Parts are easy to find for Chevy motors and most mechanics will know how to work on them when you’re in a pinch. Similarly, the 3-speed TurboHydramatic automatic transmission provides reliable gear shifting. Inside this Excalibur, you’ll find some modern conveniences that you’ll be grateful for such as a full set of gauges, air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo, steering wheel from a Corvette and a floor shifter. Tan vinyl seating is generous with room for five people if needed and the detachable hardtop is well constructed. [ omitted ]. [ omitted ]. [ omitted ].
