Vehicle description
1957 Packard Clipper
I will be listing a few cars here in the next week or two for my family. We are reducing are number of cars, so please see my other listings as well. I am not a dealer. "Studebaker-Packard introduces the new age of functional elegance!" Here we have a beautiful 1957 Packard Clipper with only 60k miles. It is a wonderful combination of original and restored. Great original color combination of Lilac and Arctic White. This would be a v ery nice car for all your cruise night events, local car shows, or just own/drive for fun! This car will be a treasure for your family to own for years to come and a great investment too!
The end of Packard: Packard and Studebaker merged in 1955, and although they continued to build Packard automobiles in Michigan through the end of 1956; as a cost saving measure, the company decided to move Packard to South Bend, IN where the Studebaker automobiles were built. Rumor has it, the original 1957 Packard design model would not fit on the assembly line in South Bend . . Therefore, the 1957 Packard Clipper was a badge-engineered automobile built off a Studebaker President chassis. Packard modifications included finned rear fenders, a special rear wheel panel treatment and more elaborate trim. The Packard name appears in individual block letters on the front of the hood. A Clipper script was placed on the rear fenders. Packard and Clipper scripts were also affixed to the deck or station wagon tailgate. The hood was modified for a 1955 Packard hood ornament and gauges were used from the 1956 Packard models. The traditional Clipper "Ships Wheel" medallion decorated the grille and the rear of the cars. Side trim distinctive to the Packard Clipper consisted of a wide, grooved bright metal band extending the entire length of the car and across the tailgate on the station wagon. Standard equipment included modified 1956 Clipper chrome wheel discs, chrome drip molding, two speed electric wipers, turn signals, back-up lights, front bumper guards, padded dashboard, deep-dish steering wheel, electric clock, cigar lighter, glovebox lamp, front & rear carpeting, foam rubber seat cushions and a rear seat armrest on the Town Sedan. The only choice available in 1957 was the four door Town Sedan or the Country Sedan Station Wagon. All other models are now in the history books, the Executive, Patrician, Four Hundred, Caribbean. Packard as a stand alone model would resurface one last time in 1958 but it would be Packard badging in name alone the rest of the car would be Studebaker.

Copy of original invoice (see photo)
The original V8 starts easy, runs well, and makes very good power (complete rebuild in 2007). The transmission shifts and operates well at all speeds. Overall, the car runs and drives excellent as a whole and is easy to drive! Although this car did not originally come equipped with A/C, it can be added if the buyer wishes to have it!
The car looks wonderful inside and out and gets loads of attention. The exterior paint is nice with only minor flaws here or there due to age and wear. All very good chrome and stainless for the age of the car, which is all original and has never been re-chromed or restored (which tells you a lot about how this car was cared for all these years). The interior has been restored in the past. Engine bay and trunk are both detailed nicely. The doors, hood, trunk all open and close with ease and all body panels line up as they should. Underneath the car looks good and solid as you would expect for a car as nice as this one. Overall, the car presents itself well to win a trophy at most of the car shows you attend. These cars are nearly impossible to find! If you want one like this, get it now while it"s still available. May not be for sale very long. It took my Dad quite a long time to find this one, but he is unable to enjoy it because of his health.
Please see the photos and ask whatever questions you might have.
