1978 GMC Jimmy 4x4
Very stock, unmodified, and almost original. Nicely equipped with air conditioning and power windows. Super sharp vintage 70"s colour combination of factory root beer brown and white with white wheels. Canopy with sliding side windows.
In a nutshell. . .
This was a rural vehicle it"s whole life. It was owned by 1-farmer, then eventually sold to another in the same small farming community. It was parked in a hay shed, and that"s where it remained.
Then I came along. Was a time I was really enthusiastic about vintage SUV"s. I spent a lot of time searching for just the right all-original Jimmy or Blazer and was overjoyed to find this one. They were not that difficult to find all original a number of years ago.
After purchasing it, my plan was to keep it perfectly original. There was 1 rust spot behind one wheel opening and I wanted it fixed. The rest of the paint would be polished. I wanted to preserve the originality.
I had that one single rust spot repaired and just that area painted. However, much like painting one wall in a house, the rest didn"t look as good in the company of the dazzling new paint.
I told the body shop to paint all the brown lower body areas. It looked fantastic but then the white looked a bit aged.
The body shop manager pointed out to me that the fibreglass canopy top was becoming a bit oxidized from the sun and time. They pointed out how the proper texture paint would preserve it for many years. Good idea, I thought. I agreed to have it done.
That"s when I was told that the white insert should be painted while it was in the booth and white was being sprayed anyways. Since I already thought it looked a bit aged beside the rest now, I agreed.
I was done spending money. . or so I thought. Then, when the body shop went to polish the hood, it hazed a bit. I was far enough down a wormhole that I just decided to have the rest done. At this point, all that remained original was the hood and upper sides anyhow.
Before I knew it, nearly 10,000 had magically left my wallet. That said, the Jimmy looks fabulous. It"s truly a beauty.
Before any body touch-up"s, everything mechanical was already gone though and addressed. Without getting into a big long list, I"ll just let you know that it runs, drives, functions excellent. Anything that the mechanic shop found that may eventually need to be addressed (including a brand new set of 4 31x10.50x15 tires), was addressed.
And, since all that, it"s sat. And sat, and sat. . and then sat some more. I just hadn"t used it as I had initially intended and, I"ll admit. . also, I lost my enthusiasm to a degree. My automotive passions have gone in a bit of a different direction.
So there you have it. Now, what does the Jimmy need?
Well, you can just enjoy it as is. Mechanically and physically, it"s second really to none. If you wanted to take it to the next level and hobby tinker a bit, I can point out that: the carpet (although VERY VERY CLEAN) has some fading. The headliner is in fantastic condition but is beginning to sag a bit in a couple areas. Also, the driver"s seat should be reupholstered. Please don"t ask for more pictures; take my word for it. I"m told the original owner had some back problems and, how he would slide out, caused some premature wear on the seat fabric. The rods in the tailgate should maybe be adjusted. There"s a big panel inside the tailgate that gives easy access. Sometimes it refuses to open unless the handle is tugged a certain way. I"ll point out that the door map pockets elastic is stretched out. A new elastic can be fed in by an upholsterer, or new map pockets can be ordered from LMC Truck and installed in 2 minutes/side. I think it"s just a couple plastic pop clips and 2 Phillips screws. Am I getting a little picky with mentioning little things at length? Perhaps but, due-diligence is important. And besides, that"s it.
Details, etc.
As mentioned, The Jimmy is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada . Once again: does not have provision for those with multiple residence. It will be shipped from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Please do not ask where it is located. . It is in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Because of it"s age (antique status), and domestic build, this Jimmy is free of any import/export restriction . It is 100% free to travel to the US (or worldwide). Title is perfectly transferrable.
Payment is by bank transfer within 72 hours of end of auction. US acct. to US acct.
Our procedure is simple, revolves around good communication, and it works. Please see feedback. Immediately after the auction, I ask for your buyer"s information and fill in the paperwork. I send you the paperwork by text picture and ask you to confirm all the information is filled in correctly. You confirm. We get a brand new title, and send another picture. We ask you to confirm the information is correct. After this, we transfer such to yourself. At this point, the Jimmy is legally yours. You will need to call your insurance. Once everything is transferred to you regarding the Jimmy, we move on to the payment stage. As mentioned, it is a simple US acct. to US acct. transfer. Next, my wife arranges shipping. She will not authorize anything though without your consent. Once all arrangements are made, she will hand the reigns to you. Payment for shipping is straight to the shipping company. . not us. We are not dealers, or middle-men of any sort. We are quite picky about our procedure listed above and will not deviate. Simply put, it works. See our feedback; it should be an excellent indicator. If you do not feel you are comfortable with it, please do not bid.
Please understand…. We will not taking a couple dozen extra photos for anyone. I chose a no-reserve auction for simplicity sake. We are not car dealers trying to profit. Just trying to sell off what we do not need in a fair manner. Our priority is an easy and mutually pleasant transaction. . not top dollar.
Jimmy will be sold without the front winch assembly. It was installed when brand new, at the GM dealership but, as I understand, it is not to everyone"s tastes. I"d like to be as accommodating to as many people as possible. With that in mind, if you are someone that would like the winch included, please specify and add $1,200 to the final sales price.
As a final note. .
We do not have a price in mind; hence the unreserved auction.
Please do not ask what the buy-it-now price is. We do not have one.
If you want to discuss prices, I will only do so with people who have placed a bid.
Nothing else to say except, go at it. .
Jimmy"s" UNRESERVED.
Happy bidding guys and gals ! !
