I bought this car with the intentions of a LT4 swap, but can"t make myself tear apart a numbers matching fuelie car that has a really rare color combination. This car is the correct VIN stamped and dated CR coded fuel injected 283/275HP manual trans fuelie. This car was a garage find that had been in storage since 1974! It was purchased non running and has not been moved in nearly 50 years! It spent the first part of it"s life in California, then was purchased by an enlisted gentlemen who bought it in 1972. The car has remained in the same owners hands and eventually made it way to Ohio, where it has been off the road and in dry indoor storage since approximately 1974. It was just recently moved to Michigan.
The original color appears to have been Jewel Blue on this car , the second lowest production color available in 1961, with a total production run of 855! Factoring in the cove color, which appears to have been white, and the interior of blue I have read that there were only 118 cars in this combination! The trunk area does not appear to have ever been painted, no overspray on latches, hardware, etc, giving a pretty clear indication that this Vette is one of less than 1 % of 19 61 Corvettes delivered in this very attractive, unique AND rare color ! The frame is exceptionally solid, and I cannot find any evidence of any accident damage, past rust repair, or any areas needing current rust repair. The front fiberglass surround has been previously replaced by an earlier version, as evidenced by the incorrect emblem in the front. The original fiberglass has been stripped mostly down to bare glass in most areas on the rear, revealing just how nice of a body is underneath the paint while there are a few areas that will need minor work, the great majority is quite nice, with even the original seams being evident in most areas. The hood is an original piece, but it has been modified with the scoop, but could be repaired with a quality aftermarket skin to take it back to original, or replaced with an unmodified version. The brightwork/chrome/trim pictured on the car is the only trim included. No other trim or parts are included with the purchase other than what is pictured. The only larger/more significant things definitively missing (and this may not be everything) are: the clock, rear bumpers, correct heads, and fuel injection unit. If you don"t see it, it"s not included. Feel free to inquire about anything specific you may have concerns about BEFORE bidding. The original blue interior is as complete as pictured. The tach, speedo, and other gauges other than the clock are all intact/included. Original wonderbar radio is in the dash. The car includes the original auxiliary hardtop (with one year only white headliner), along with a nice convertible top frame too, possibly wearing the original convertible top. A new white convertible top is also included. Note the super cool vintage California decals on the inside of the car too! The engine compartment is untouched/unrestored with the majority of original com p onents in place. The engine turns over freely and is all date code AND serial number correct, except for the heads which are 1968. The correct/original fuelie heat riser, high horse exhaust cross over, tach drive distributor, and many other unique items are still on/with the vehicle. Transmission and pretty much all other dated items all appear to be correctly dated to the vehicle. I can send photos of all dates/casting numbers that are not shown in the auction, but the most important dates are as follows: Block casting date is Sept 30 1960, T ransmission case Oct 27, 1960, Transmission tail shaft is Oct 30, 1960. Bellhousing is the correct 3779553 piece. It"s truly remarkable that literally every single piece is dated well within the production date of this Vette! This is something I have personally NEVER witnessed on any straight axle! The original VIN tag is in place on the steering column. The mileage shows 30K, and the title shows it"s accurate, but who knows. It"s extremely rare to find ANY early project Corvette with the correct engine, let alone a FUELIE. Here"s a very rare opportunity to own and restored a untouched barn find matching number, vin number accurate fuelie convertible! If you know your Corvettes, you know how hard it is to find a first generation Corvette project car these days, especially a fuelie with THE CORRECT ENGINE.
