2001 Volkswagon New Beetle GLX
1.8L I4 EFI, 4-cylinder, manual transmission
Studded Snow Tires
New battery put in Sept. 2018
Bought used with 112,174 miles on odometer.
Exterior in decent condition, a few small rust spots (see photos).
Right front tire tends to lose air quickly (common issue on this model).
Working sunroof. Heated driver & front passenger seats. Leather seats decent but some worn spots on seams. Some of the interior upholstery was falling out and glued back in place.
Car had an oil leak which likely caused engine damage. Car was checked over and mechanic provided preliminary repair list:
Checked over for needed repairs, noise, check engine light, etc. 1-Check engine light on, 7 codes stored (see below for full list). 2-Multiple oil leaks, sources unknown. Will take some labor time to clean and diagnose causes. 3-Left fog light broken, right not working. Will need repair or removal for inspection. Rear marker lights out (both sides). 4-Brakes hard, vacuum boost weak, needs diagnosis. 5-Exhaust leak, needs mid muffler 6-Secondary air pump very loud when running (cold start and intermittently thereafter). 7-After road test, engine was making a loud top end noise, needs diagnosis.
Connected scan tool and retrieved stored diagnostic trouble codes: 7 Faults Found: 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 35-10 - - Intermittent 16685 - Cylinder 1 P0301 - 35-10 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent 16686 - Cylinder 2 P0302 - 35-10 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent 17608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) P1200 - 35-10 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent 16395 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake) P0011 - 35-00 - Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced) 16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1 P0420 - 35-00 - Efficiency Below Threshold 16688 - Cylinder 4 P0304 - 35-10 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent
