Offered for sale is my 2003 GMMG Silverado, regular cab, short box truck, powered by an LS6 based powerplant and paired with a T-56 transmission. The truck has just over 8900 original miles. This truck has a very unique and intriguing history. It was built by Matt Murphy and GMMG for Berger Chevrolet, the same folks that are well known for modifying fourth generation Camaros and Trans Ams from the late 1990s through the early 2000s. For a full history of GMMG please visit the GMMG registry at GMMGregistry.com.
Onto the truck being offered for sale, it started life as a well optioned 4.8L V8 powered RCSB GMT800, ordered new by Berger Chevrolet and shipped directly to GMMG in Georgia (the dealership which partnered with GMMG to create fourth generation F-Body hotrods). After the production of fourth gen F-body cars ceased in 2002, Berger was looking for the next GM vehicle to modify and offer as part of their performance-oriented sales program. The vehicles chosen were a pair of 2003 Silverados, one painted Hugger Orange and one in Victory Red. Both trucks were modified with Phase 2x heads, an LS6 aluminum block, high lift cam, custom air intake, a full chambered exhaust, a T56 transmission, and lowering kit. The Hugger Orange truck was used on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2003. The Red truck saw little use and was kept around GMMG’s shop in Marietta, GA. Berger and GMMG never publicly offered any hot rod trucks for sale, and as such, the two trucks all but disappeared. That is, until I purchased this truck in April of 2021. It had been with its fourth owner since 2011, and last seen offered for sale in Mecum’s Indy 2013 catalog, where it was pulled from the sale before crossing the block.
After purchasing the truck, I did extensive research, contacting Jim Smith of the GMMG Registry. He put me in touch with multiple folks, namely Dick Jacques, Dennis Barker, and Mike Carnahan. Dick being a former salesman of Berger, Dennis being a former special program manager at Berger, and Mike being a former master tech and engine builder/tuner/installer at GMMG. Luckily for me, Mike Carnahan had the story on the truck. After Berger shut down the GMMG truck program, Mike purchased the red truck from Berger in Mid-2005. Having the ties with GMMG and GM that he did, he then installed the full OEM Silverado SS body kit, OEM SS chrome wheels and tires, and had the entire truck repainted at GMMG. The fact that the truck was repainted lends to why the paint is so much smoother and flatter than a factory paint job. I have multiple photographs of the truck sitting in GMMG’s parking lot in 2005, right after the body kit and paint was finished. After finishing the install, Mike dyno’d the truck one final time, where it put down 528 hp and 516 lb ft of torque per the dyno sheet, which I have. He then sold the Silverado in late 2005 to Chuck of Martin Septic, who resided in Florida, making him the 3rd owner. I have the registration tag from transfer of ownership to Chuck in November of 2005. The truck stayed with Chuck’s family after his passing until 2011. It was then sold to its fourth owner, a gentleman from IL, who registered the truck in both Wisconsin and Illinois. In 2011 the truck had just over 3000 miles. I purchased the truck from the fourth owner in April of 2021, with just under 8700 miles, making me the truck’s fifth titled owner.
My GMMG Silverado sits exactly as it was finished by Mike at GMMG in 2005, right down to the original date coded tires. It runs and drives perfectly, and everything functions as intended, save for the cruise control, which is not functional. The truck was well optioned when new, including power windows, power mirrors, power locks, steering wheel functions, rear defrost, CD player, and overhead console. The truck has an aftermarket amplifier, upgraded speakers, and a behind seat subwoofer, all wired to the factory radio. It is lowered 2/4 on Edelbrock shocks, drop front spindles, and Eibach shackles in the rear. As mentioned earlier, the truck has a 5.7L LS6 aluminum block motor with GMMG’s Phase 2X heads and high lift cam. It is complemented by a custom cold air intake and a full exhaust, comprised of Dynatech Long tube headers, high flow catalytic converters, and GMMG’s signature chambered catback exhaust with single exit tip. The truck sounds unlike anything else and turns heads everywhere.
This ’03 Silverado is located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, just one hour North of Milwaukee WI and two hours North of Chicago. I am happy to assist in shipping the truck and would love to meet the next owner in person if possible. The truck will be sold with a clean Wisconsin title in my name, two sets of keys, owner’s manual, and all documentation I have for the truck. That documentation includes the Berger Chevrolet letter from 2003 granting GMMG permission to operate and drive the truck, photos of the truck at GMMG from 2005 right after it fitted with the OEM SS parts, the 2005 dyno sheet, the original registration tag from Chuck’s transfer of title, a copy of the fourth owner’s title, and copies of all the emails I sent to uncover the truck’s history.
Asking $52,500 OBO. Vehicle will be held until all funds are cleared.
