You have found a fairly rare Buick. This 1996 Regal Olympic Gold Edition is one of very few ever produced to commemorate the Atlanta Olympic Games in that year. Think of how many could possibly be left? Now, this car is FAR from perfect, I bought this car from an estate sale facilitated by Manheim auctions in Southern California. The car was left sitting in a lady"s back yard for over 15 years after the original owner passed, the car was in a horrible state when I got it. Paint was peeling, leather was dried out and falling apart at the seams, headliner was drooping down and the sun had dried out the panel under the rear window. Fortunately the car was facing north while it sat all those years and the dashboard miraculously survived. Because of the rarity of the car, I decided to "save" it. I had the car delivered to my shop in Phoenix where prior to attempting to start it we drained the fluids and checked all the belts and hoses. After replenishing all of that we installed a new battery and the car fired right up. I have driven the car personally a little over 100 miles and ran some fuel system cleaner through it, it runs and drives perfectly, even though the car was sitting for all of those years it performs exactly how you would expect a lower mile car to be. The paint-job is mediocre at best but I did spend a lot of time colorsanding and polishing it out so it has a really good shine, it is a half-shade lighter than the original white, it looks very nice and even though it is not a "World Of Wheels" show winning finish, it still looks nicer and cleaner than 99% of any 24 year old cars rolling down the road, you can see that in the photos. The interior has been reupholstered but I was able to save the original headrests with the USA and Olympic rings embroidered into them. I also re-did the headliner and visors, carpets, dash, console and door panels are all original. Please take the time to read my description and enjoy the nearly 100 photos below including several of the undercarriage which show the car has no rust issues and has never been damaged.
The body of the car is very straight and has two or three "soft" door dings, no paint damage though. There are a few blemishes in the finish such as a few chips but absolutely no major dings, dents or scratches. As I mentioned earlier, this is not a $5000 paint job, there was no body damage prior to painting it, just the typical mid-nineties peel that commonly occurred on all GM vehicles of this era. It looks VERY nice, shiny and clean but if you are picky, please call me and I can give you an inch by inch description so there are no disappointments. The glass is all original in the car and there are a few scratches in the side glass but nothing major, all is crystal clear with no window tinting on them. The lights and lenses are all intact and functional, there is a hairline fracture in each of the tail-lamp lenses but they are still sealed, very minor. Tires are very nice Pirelli"s and have nearly 85% tread remaining but they do show some aging, good shape though. Factory alloys are all intact including all center caps, they do show some aging in the clear-coat but are in fairly good shape including the gold finish.
The interior is very clean and as I mentioned in the opening section of this ad it was owned by a non smoker so there are no tobacco odors inside. With the new upholstery it smells really fresh inside. I had the seats done in a marine-grade leather-tek material so they look like leather and feel super soft and comfortable but will likely out-last the car, the material is incredibly durable. The car had low miles so the foam under the material was in incredible shape, not worn or beat down. Door panels are original and show minimal aging, carpets are also original and are very clean. The cup-holder doors on the console are all there and intact but the plastic hinges are broken on one side so they can be manipulated to open or close but are not functioning properly, ash-tray door, glove box, etc are all intact and in good working order. All interior lighting, gauges, audio, power seat, power windows, power locks, keyless entry, power trunk and even the original power antenna are all in good shape and function as they should.
Mechanically the car is exactly what you would expect. It is super smooth, quiet and powerful. Transmission shifts perfectly and it holds the road very nicely, the car is a real pleasure to drive. You can tell that the mileage is correct by how tight the steering and suspension is, no rattles, no shimmies and no shakes. The car does not overheat and it has not exhibited any leaks, these 3800 Series II engines are also touted as being as close to "bullet-proof" as anything ever made. Also noteworthy, there are no "service engine soon" or any warning lights on in the dash.
Do not miss this opportunity to own a rust free, super low mile and low production Olympic Gold Edition Buick.
