Vehicle description
This is the one you want! The last model year, less than 27K original miles, sunroof, 5 speed! One of only 6,486 made. The title is clean and it recently passed California emissions.
The 1988 Fiero brought a new suspension design, thought by many to have a striking resemblance to those designed by Lotus, which at the time, was about to be acquired by General Motors. This was the suspension the Pontiac engineers had designed in the beginning, along with what they learned from the racing program. Up front were revised control arms and knuckles that reduced steering effort and improved the scrub radius. At the rear, a tri-link suspension with all new knuckles was installed. This new suspension came with staggered wheel sizes on WS6 suspension equipped models, with 15 X 6 in wide wheels up front and 15 X 7 in wide wheels in the rear for improved handling balance and to offset the slightly increased front track that resulted from the improvements.
This number matching low -mileage 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT has been well cared for it’s whole life, as evidenced by the factory paint, and immaculate interior. By all accounts, 100% garage kept. I bought the car in Sep 2020 from the previous owner, who kept it in a garage in Ohio. His write-up stated that “it spent most of its life in Florida”. The factory wheels are in incredible shape, with the tires barely showing wear. The only cosmetic modifications for appearance are a lowered front end, after-market air scoop, and shorty antenna. There was also a Rodney Dickman short-throw shifter installed, and cables were upgraded to match when the clutch work was done (see below). I would grade the paint at 9/10. Only a couple pits on the hood (see photos), a slight spider crack on the rear bumper. There is some paint de-lamination near the exhaust tips which is typical (heat). The “dew wipes” (window seals) are dry-rotted with age; my plan was to replace these before the pandemic. The rear wing was re-painted in Oct 2020 and properly color matched and you cannot notice any difference. The floor pans and rails underneath are in great shape and I took a couple of photos. You will also notice that a sunshade for the factory sunroof is store in a sleeve, under the front hood.
The interior is near perfect, with no rips or tears in the seats or carpeting. The console is nearly flawless, with one gap on the passenger’s side (typical for these cars with age). You will see a factory installed anti-theft device that has been disabled. The original owner’s manual is in one of the door flaps. All mechanical features on the car work flawlessly. This includes the headlight motors, all lights and turn signals and power windows. The air conditioner works just fine. The previous owner stated that the air conditioner was overhauled when he owned it, but I have no receipts for that.
I have receipts for the following (except where noted) since I’ve owned the car: * June 2021 (26,388 miles): four wheel alignment, emissions test (passed) * Mar 2021: bumper re-paint including integrated clear-coatJan 2021: Radio and cassette repairedJan 2021 (25,801 miles): new battery * Dec 2020: (25,567 miles): flywheel removed and re-surfaced, new main bearing oil seal, new crankshaft cover gasket and seal, transmission mounts, front engine mount, complete clutch rebuild, cam and oil pan gaskets replaced, oil change and filter, manual transmission shaft seal, new transmission cables, vacuum hose for windshield washer, bled brake lines, rebuilt caliper and new rear disc pads (rear, right side), changed brake fluid, new heater core and hoses, coolant flush and refill, adjusted ignition timing, removed and replaced vaccum hose to EGR valve, replaced rear brake pads and re-surfaced rotors, removed and replaced heater core * Nov 2020: passed California emissions test upon arrival into California
Previous owner: * June 2020: (25,449 miles): oil change, lube, filter * June 2019: (no receipts): Fiero Store SS exhaust, front lowering springs, four new speakersApril 2019: (24,496 miles): remove and replace distributer seals * Nov 2018 (24,474 miles): drain and fill cooling systemJul 2018 (24,136 miles): replaced starter motor, replaced ignition wires, spark plugs, distributor/cap/rotor, install Rodney Dickman short throw shifter, oil change and filter, replace EGR valve.
