Vehicle description
This is a 2-owner X5. We purchased this vehicle from its original owner in 2012 when it came off lease and have owned it ever since. The vehicle has never been in an accident and is all-orignal. We bought a new X5 in 2018, but kept this one over the past 3 years as an extra vehicle. It runs and drives great, but was getting used less and less, so we have decided to sell.
This X5 is phenomenally loaded with options - so much so the MSRP on the factory sticker was $76,000. You will search forever to find another X5 with all of these options, including Sport, Premium, Cold Weather and Technology packages. Among other things, these packages give you:
High performance 4.8L V8 engine Comfort access including keyless entry & start 3rd row seating Heated seats (front and rear), steering wheel and mirrors Premium 20" rims (the same as the M Sport X5) Premium leather interior with sport-contour seats Technology package, including bluetooth, HD sound w/ 16 speakers, DVD player, etc Rear climate controls Adjustable anti-roll active sport suspension with electronic damping control Parking distance sensors, front & rear radar, with backup camera Navigation with real-time traffic information Automatic open/close tailgate Etc. The X5 is cosmetically excellent. There are a few normal wear items such as a couple scuffs on the rims and one tiny ding I am aware of on the left rear quarter, but is overall in superb condition. The vehicle was originally equipped with a dealer-installed "clearbra" on the front of the hood and front bumper. This has been removed and there are absolutely no rock chips or other dings and nicks on the front of the vehicle. There is a faint visible line where the bra was previously installed and can be seen if you look close in the one closeup photo taken from the passenger side front fender.
The vehicle has been well maintained, but has a few minor mechanical issues we are aware of. We are choosing to disclose every issue we are aware of and want to reassure you we are hiding nothing about the car. Here is a full list of normal wear items and their status, as well as everything we are aware of that is not perfect about the vehicle.
Tires - The car has Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires. These are not the run-flat tires the car was originally equipped with. They are actually a better / more expensive tire than the OEM tire. We changed to these because of the quieter and better ride of these tires over the run-flats. These tires are approaching end of life with an average of 3mm - 4mm of remaining tread.
Brakes - The front brakes have 80% life remaining. The rear brakes have 50% life remaining.
Battery - New AGM battery installed August 2021.
Engine - The engine runs strong with no obvious mechanical issues or major problems. There is an oil leak on the driver"s side toward the rear. We believe it is the valve cover. It sometimes drips onto the exhaust manifold if it sits for several weeks and will smell until it is burned off. If the car idles in one spot for an extended period of time, there will be some drips of oil on the ground. The engine has a slow coolant leak. Again, if the vehicle sits for a few weeks, it may lose a pint or so of coolant. We have had the coolant system pressure tested (hot) and the shop did not find a leak and they reassured us it was not a head gasket.
Interior - The vehicle has some expected wear from use, but is in overall very clean and great condition. There is an adjustment tab that has fallen off one of the rear seat vents. The tab is in the glove box, but the vent is harder to adjust without the adjustment tab. The iDrive system is sometimes slow to boot up and occasionally reboots. This is a known issue that began when iDrive units with this version of software passed a specific calendar date (sort of like a Y2K issue). BMW has a software update that will fix this, but I am not sure if they will install it at no charge. The nav system DVD is out of date and occasionally will lock up (maybe due to scratches on the DVD?). The nav DVD should be replaced. The climate system has 4 zones (divided left and right, and also front and rear). The front right climate zone is sometimes unresponsive and will not adjust to the climate setting. We have been told this is a result of a failed heater control valve (about $30 on Amazon).
Recall items - There are four open recalls on the vehicle, listed below with the NHTSA recall number. Any BMW dealer will perform these recall service items at no charge: 13V045 - Brake vacuum pump replacement 16V071 - Driver"s front airbag replacement 17V020 - Passenger front airbag replacement 16V746 - In-tank fuel pump replacement
As mentioned above - we have been as transparent as we possibly can about the condition of this X5. You can come drive it anytime and I would not hesitate to let you drive it away on a trip to take it home. It is a good and good-running vehicle. If you wish to have a mechanic inspect it, we are happy to take it wherever you wish. If you want us to pick you up in it at the airport, we can do that. If you need help getting it shipped, we are happy to help with making this happen on our end, but the buyer will be responsible for any shipping costs.
