Vehicle description
1996 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. I purchased this truck two years ago with the intention of turning into a lowered customized step side, Life got in the way. The truck had virtually no rust other than in the wheel arches on the bed which I was removing anyway. There was no rust at all in the cab, front fenders, rockers or cab corners. I did replace the passenger fender, and both doors with straight rust free units that I sourced from North Carolina, rather than try to work out the dents and bruises that happen during the course of 25 years.
I replaced the brakes all around, new parking brake cables, new shocks on all four corners, replaced the power steering pump, freshened up the transmission and installed a shift kit. The wheels and tires are new, and I mean new. They are brand new take-offs from a 2019 dodge RAM 1500 and as of this listing only have about 1000 miles on them.
The headliner has been replaced, the dashboard has been repaired with a molded plastic dash cap and all interior plastics have been re-dyed in the original saddle tan. I repainted the truck in its original Flame Red last fall. It isn"t the greatest paint job, I got a little too much orange peel in in. I cut and buffed it as best as I could. It"s not perfect, but it"s definitely presentable. The entire frame was wire brushed, treated with rust inhibitor, and painted with black rust-oleum. I did not load the truck up with undercoating as it was very clean when I got it and do not like loading vehicles up with undercoating. .(it hides defects).
Since I ended up not building the truck as a step side, I created the wood flatbed by starting with a pop up camper frame that I resized to 6 feet wide and 7 feet long. all of the wood is pressure treated and was installed in October of 2020.
What you don"t see in the pictures is the rear bumper and oversized mud flaps, which are required by PA state law.
The only negatives with the truck are two chips in the windshield, which depending on where the truck would end up or your preference would need repaired, and the power door locks do not work. The solenoids for the lock mechanisms have failed, requiring both lock mechanisms to be replaced to function properly. They do work. .however only once or twice and then they will blow the fuse. The solenoids work fine to lock the doors, but when you go to unlock, they draw too much current and blow the fuse.
Currently the truck is titled and registered as an antique in the state of PA. 25 year old vehicles qualify for Antique tags, which is a permanent registration, and requires no annual inspection. There are limitations to how and when you "should" drive and antique, but for the most part its a win win for the owner. The PA antique tag and registration can be transferred to a new owner in the state of PA if he/she so desires. As for the lack of inspection. .I did have my mechanic go over the truck top to bottom in January when I had the front end aligned and he gave it a big thumbs up.
The mileage currently is just over 95,000 as I am driving the truck every so often just to keep it moving.
It would make someone a very nice work truck for a small business, or just a handy 3rd vehicle to use to get mulch, or lumber. .whatever.
By all means if you have any questions just ask. .I have nothing to hide. It"s a good old truck.
