Get in touch with Lee’s Summit Subaru to register your interest now. 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA - Why It’s Worth the Wait Subaru’s Type RA badge has been well known since the Subaru Legacy smashed the FIA World Speed Endurance Record twenty-eight years ago where it clocked an impressive 62,000 miles over 18 days and achieving a top speed of 138 miles per hour. Since then, Subaru has released numerous Type RA vehicles with small design upgrades. All of that is expected to change when Subaru’s latest Type RA hits the road with a slew of fantastic improvements. The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA (Record Attempt) limited edition hits the market with a few exterior differences when compared to previous iterations. The vehicle stands out with an eye-catching Cherry Blossom Red accent that encompasses both the newly added front mesh grille and the rear bumper cover. Turn signal integrated exterior mirrors, a shark fin antenna on the roof, and STI fender badges are now black. The RA also gets a front underspoiler for improved stability at high speed, and lightweight 19-inch forged BBS wheels wrapped in 245/35R-19 Yokohama Advan Sports. It also has a carbon-fiber roof panel and wing and jettisons the spare tire in the trunk in the name of weight reduction. The Biggest Changes Are Under the Hood Thanks to the combined effort of its 2.5L turbocharged BOXER engine, the new cold air intake, retuned ECU, stronger pistons, and performance exhaust, the WRX STI has received a boost in horsepower to around 310 hp (up 5 hp from a basic STI). It also features a six-speed transmission with a better 3rd gear ratio and a short throw shifter. All of the above produce a vehicle with even more get-up-and-go. The front struts are inverted and a rear double wishbone suspension makes the WRX STI handle with ease. The Brembo brakes feature 6-piston monoblock front calipers and dual piston calipers in the rear. They also brandish an exclusive finish in silver and cross-drilled rotors that improve heat dissipation. A multi-mode VDC improved stability. As far as the interior goes, the WRX STI Type RA features Recaro performance front seats. The WRX STI features a push-button start and Keyless Access. Subaru only produced 500 WRX STI Type RA 2018 models. Each comes numbered with a center-console-mounted plaque. The WRX STI will be available in Crystal White Pearl, WR Blue Pearl, and Crystal Black Silica. All of the upholstery is microsuede and black leather with matching red accents and stitching. Red seatbelts are standard, as is a frameless rearview mirror. The seating stands out with red stitching and an STI logo embossed on the head restraints. Both the accent trim and stitching are noticeable throughout the interior. For improved grip, the steering wheel comes draped in Ultrasuede.
